better turn radius

I have a 77 front cross member with cpp modular drop spindles on my 62 C10 and I was wondering if there is a way to get a better turn radios without breaking the bank or cutting and bending and welding?

Re: better turn radius

Wide tires, taller tires, and the offset of wheels are reduced turning radius. So when you lowered your truck you may have done one of the following mods too.

Often times drop spindles increase track width. Which again can reduce turning radius.

A drift truck I read about. Ground down the spindle stops, used a longer pitman arm off the box, and idler arm. Increase turning angle thus increase turning radius.

Re: better turn radius

Did the mods make the turn radius wider? Or are you just wondering if it is possible to improve on the OEM turn radius?

It is hard for me to remember. I did it so long ago. I don't think it did.
I am just trying to get around parking lots better.

The difference between the modular cpp drop spindles and the regular drop spindles is they keep the track width around the same as stock. My tires are 275's So they are kind of wide but it is not a vary tall tire. Probably around the same height as stock.

Re: better turn radius

I noticed your in Burbank. If you wanna meet up to compare it to my rcsb to see how good or bad your doing would be cool.

I have stock front suspension, manual steering, 255/65r16 up front, and 285/65r17 rear.

Thanks for the offer but I am fairly certain that I am getting close to a stock radius. I am looking to see if there are any eazy mods that I can do to make it tighter than stock.

Re: better turn radius

I've got a 91 V1500 (4x4) and would like to know if there is any way to shorten my turning radius. I read somewhere a long time ago that changing to crossover steering would help a little but I have not been able to verify that.

Re: better turn radius

Can you post some pics of your front suspension.
Especially the centerlink and the tie rods.
It’s a very common mistake to install the centerlink wrong.
This really affects the way it drives.

Re: better turn radius

ballencd.. it being a suburban , its not gonna turn real short anyway
check to see if your hitting the axle stops when you go full left and right turn,
with it being a 4wd you dont want to bind up the ujoints in the axles..if your hitting the stops, thats about all your gonna get... if you have a steering stabilizer, make sure your getting full travel with it

Re: better turn radius

For some reason my notifications from 67-72chevytrucks has been going to my junk email box so I have been missing these posts. I'm trying to get my e-mail to work correctly as it was in the past. Meanwhile I will try to get a few pictures and do some looking.
Thanks

Re: better turn radius

As far as I know the steering is as factory. Here is a picture of the tie rod.

Re: better turn radius

I will need some help to look at the steering stops which I don't have tonight but will try tomorrow. The steering stabilizer has a nice dent in it but I suspect it isn't interfering with the turning radius. I will get it replaced soon.
