Lights on top look cheesey, hood does not fit at cowl and looks like the lower door in picture has rust starting to bubble back through. Inner windshield trim not there.

But at the buy it now price of $37k you will have some money left over to fix those areas.

very cool idea to convert an ad to ev
who says our hobby won't be around in 100 yrs
that itty bitty motor direct connected to the drive shaft looks simple enough
though i wonder why he chose to install new temp, oil press, fuel and 12 volt gauges

I'd been thinking of doing something like that to my '56 for years .... now I know why I haven't ....major bucks.

I've also considered doing full propane power ... that might be doable.

For that kind of money I would think the fit and finish would be up to par.

A "custom" truck built by a non truck guy is my take. And one of those who thinks that going down the chrome trinket aisle at Autozone and grabbing one of each is customizng. My new Porter Cable heat gun might break the portholes and other nonsense off so all you have to deal with is the glue and an hour or two swapping out some of the other tacky pieces for cleaner looking pieces and you have and interesting truck.

Thinking about it, they may have taken an existing truck that was already setup with the gauges in it and converted it to electric. The lets pay 15K for this truck and pull the 350 out and put in an electric motor thing.

Interesting;

You guys are right - sooo close, and yet -

The LED lights look cheesy, a more integrated charge port would've been nice, the port holes I can do without.

All detract from what looks like a pretty cool concept and conversion.

Re: All electric AD truck out of Lake Tahoe on Ebay?

Looking at the photo of the electric motor you can see that it is either a subframed truck or sitting on an S-10 chassis.

No doubt the seller wants a fortune for it with that starting price and reserve not met. It would be a real service to the poor truck for someone with really deep pockets to buy it and descab it so that it is actually a slick and clean little truck that you could hum around town in. A full charge would take me to work and back and keep up with my noon running around town.

I'm diggin' the black zip tie electrical for the mirror myself. I can feel that poor truck begging for an intervention. I suspect they will have it for a while or eat what they put into it.

I'd like to find out the real story on the truck as the seller sounds like they just wrote down what was handed to them by someone else. One guess is that some gold chainer in that area bought the truck as a pretty decent running truck with a 350/350 in it, took it back to his "lets go green" work shop and pulled the engine and trans and stuck in the electric motor, put the power plug right up where the world had to notice it rather than closer to the electrical gear it was hooked to and then added the Autozone or Walmart decoratons to "customize" it so that it showed it was electric powered. But it does need an interventon. Maybe one of us has the good Powerball ticket this week.

Re: All electric AD truck out of Lake Tahoe on Ebay?

The current capacity of that bank of batteries could probably turn the whole truck red hot in seconds. I wonder what would happen to a person laying on them.

Sure nobody would do that, but well, they do...

We've tamed (right) electricity over 100 years, much as we've learned (the hard way) neuclear radiation is dangerous.

The point is, we use (AC) electricity in small benign doses these days.

Electric cars take us back to the wild wild west days of massive doses (current, or flow) of electricity to move large masses quickly.

Milliamps will electrocute a human.
These cars run on hundreds of amps...

It's certainly an interesting idea. Lots of "unique" decisions made on the accessories. The grille is a no go. A little restraint and a refresh by an old truck guy would make that truck much nicer.
Overall, probably opens up the hobby to another group of people who would ordinarily overlook an old truck as nothing more than a smog pump.

Re: All electric AD truck out of Lake Tahoe on Ebay?

Where to start here on a $37K engine bay?

I like the way the hoses (coolant?) are carefully routed over top the master cylinder.
The unistrut bracket across the bay is custom.
The lower left pump fittings look cobbled on.

I'm sure there are others I'm overlooking. I don't mean to rag on others trucks but for $37K i'd expect better layouts.

Re: All electric AD truck out of Lake Tahoe on Ebay?

Absolutely.
And if you look at the fender, lights, that's a $30 strip of led's from radio shack (I'm going to use a set as an under hood light) that looks like he just hot glued them on.

If someone wants something different and cool, there's a guy selling a steam powered 48. If you got it running well enough, it could easily trump the electric truck. Not to mention cost only a fraction of the price.
I would LOVE to get my hands on it and get it running again. But those two things always get in the way.... time and money.
What do you guys think of this?

the machine shop is run off of steam not the truck

those $30 led strips can be found on ebay for $5 per meter w/free shipping from china

i can feel it's pain

it could have been done better. looks like they mounted the motor and hung stuff with what they had in the scrap pile
that charge port hanging off the side is just poor integration

Re: All electric AD truck out of Lake Tahoe on Ebay?

True it could have been a lot better but the big plug right out in the site line was intentional to show that it was electric powered. I took the liberty of contacting the seller last night an asked what frame was under it and if the lights and stick on chrome could be removed without ruining the paint. No idea was the answer on the frame and they thought so was the answer on the stick on stuff. No info on it's history offered up either.

$37k is high. I'd build my own before buying someone else's conversion.
