Re: 66 Buick Skylark - Ruth

Looks good, Steve. I had those Hotchkis bars on my '94 Cadillac Fleetwood (Yeah, I know....), and they made the car feel so much tighter in the turns. It was rediculous. They actually made my barge fun to drive.

If it makes you feel any better, with the wheels and all, you hardly notice the paint.

Re: 66 Buick Skylark - Ruth

Thanks, Jonboy. I get a ton of thumbs-up when I'm driving it around. One of the benefits is I can drive it and not worry about stone chips and stuff. I plan on using it some in daily driver duty this summer now that it is pretty reliable and the A/C works.

No snickers about the Caddy from me!

I pretty much have the same car but nowhere near as nice of shape. Same motor and trans, factory color, etc. Mines getting a 400/400 combo in it and GS touches. Love yours and mine aspires to be that nice.Would like to see what you do with it. Later, Richie

Re: 66 Buick Skylark - Ruth

Thanks for the nice comments, Richie. Build thread??

Ruth will be getting new paint and interior over the next few months.

The engine looks nice and it is fine for cruising, but it sure could use some steroids or something. I'm torn between keeping the drive train original or just putting in the LS it's begging for.

Re: 66 Buick Skylark - Ruth

Well I would love an LS3 or similar motor and a 6 speed stick but I guess I will be keeping it all Buick. If I were to swap it out for another motor, the LS would be the way to go. I started a thread on V-8 Buick but have been just collecting parts since. Got the front end off trying to get my disc brakes on it and then get my motor and tranny in it. I love the color on your car and those wheels look great. Love to get the size info off of them. 17" ? Love to see more. Later, Richie

Re: 66 Buick Skylark - Ruth

A Grand National turbo would be interesting too, but I've not run across one...

The wheels are 17x7 with Toyos, 235/40.

Re: 66 Buick Skylark - Ruth

Steve, have you seen the Buick Special convertible that is in Hot Rod magazine every so often? It is a clapped out convertible that they put CPP suspension under to make it handle better. It looks like it would make a pretty cool beater, but it still has the small Buick V8 (330?) in it.

Yes, I've seen that. Buick's don't get a lot of coverage, so when one shows up i hang on to it.

Re: 66 Buick Skylark - Ruth

Well, that's two of us.

I'm so glad I have a spot reserved at Laid Back Recreations. Ruth is gonna get a nice facelift out of this deal. We aren't doing a radical body off since she's in such good shape. My intent is to actually drive her to work when the weather is nice, so the idea is to have her look good, but not so good that I won't want to drive her.

That's the plan as of 9/13 anyway.

Re: 66 Buick Skylark - Ruth

Plans change...... Mine sure have. I was going to just fix it up and then realized that I dont want just stock so I am combining all the ideas for a GS400 from several different years. Here's "Katherine", my Skylark. Don't laugh as she is sensative.

Far from perfect CG. Thanks guys for the compliments. I think I'll get it out this morning.
I don't want to hijack Zoomins thread so now back to the regularly scheduled program.

Whats next Zoomin?

She's getting paint and body and Laid Back Recreations. I'm on the verge of doing a heart transplant on the old girl. The old "while you're here you might as well as" is kicking in strong right now.
