My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up

Time to paint my radiator support install a more powerful electric fan and make a more efficient fan shroud for the engine driven fan. When driving in town or open road no cooling issues but if I am stuck on the 405 Frwy not moving for 12 or 15 minutes the coolant temp. starts to creep up to 220 and above, but as soon as i start moving even if it is only 10 or 15 mph it drops back down to 180. So I bought a 16" Zirgo electric 3000 CFM Cooling Fan. pusher or puller. It hooked up directly to my old existing fan electrical connections.

GMC trucks have a pretty ugly radiator support, this is why I modified mine

My old electric fan was only about 1250 cfm. That was a long time ago I didn't know better. I was running into folks with the same issue too. But there is way more info than ever before and even better than what we use to find in the magazine articles and adds. Summit has a very helpful video too. Any body on here shopping around for the right fan should check this video out.

I also updated my low mount alternator bracket. As usual universal Alternator, Power steering & A/C bracket kits weather it be a SB or BB Chevy, Ford or Dodge they leave a lot to be desired at times so you have to improvise to get stuff to work even when they claim it fits right out of the box. In my case the Billet Specialties Low Mount Alternator bracket is gr8 but they had only (one size fits all) aduster bar / turnbuckle. My rack & pinion with their set up was not allowing me to make the necessary adjustment. Thanks for the compliment but if I could have afforded it I would have bought a fan shroud, lol. The store bought ones look better than mine.

Tight fit with my low mount alternator bracket. But got it to finally work out.

My old low mount alternator bracket was not good quality so I bought a new one from Billet Specialty, but still had a problem and had to buy a different length adjuster bar from CNC CUSTOMS.

Lookin good. Do you need to run both fans? Why not just run the new electric?
Fan shroud looks good I always like seeing built stuff over bought because anyone can buy stuff.

I had a couple of bad experiences with electric fan only on other vehicles so didn't want to take that chance with this ryde. The only reason I wanted the store bought shroud was becoz they were curvy and streamlined , mine says "home made"

I love watching and learning from your build. You do so many cool things, and your pictures....great.

Been busy with life and not had too much time to work on the project. It is funny how you get more knowledge and then go back and change all the things that you did previously (my problem). I guess it's what makes you better, but it makes it so you don't get very far.

Say hi to BAM. I miss his build and expertise. I sure learned a lot from watching him.

Donnie cut out some metal to make gussets to weld to key parts of the frame for added strength.

Now Bam said , "what are are you two knuckle heads up to now?" coz we were laughing about the fact that Bam would weld on two gussets top and bottom and box them.

Donnie said I think one right in the middle is enough for added strength and i said me too, and Bam called us the Bobbsey twins. We know he welds & fabricates better than us so we cut corners when it's safe to do so,

Hey thanks for droppin' by to take a peak. You are too kind I have seen your work I wish I was on you and Kims level lol. I will certainly tell Bam you said, Hey!

You and Bam are just a like, hahaha the better he gets at doing something he goes back and changes previous work done and like you said, "you don't get very far".........Don't get me wrong he has made a lot of progress even putting an LS motor together, he just got the block out of the machine shop. But he wishes he was further along.

Yes life happens that's why I am moving at a snails pace. I wonder if I will live long enough to began work on my '67 El Camino, lol Taking care of my mom full time and have to drive out of state to check on my dad, drive the elderly in the church van and help my oldest daughter maintain her car and the list goes on.

Be encouraged bro don't give up it's actually therapeutic to be by yourself in the garage doing what you love.

It is so cool ppl using Jag IRS in there trucks. I have never heard how it handles? Keep up the good work.
