Our trucks at MCACN

Went to the mcacn in Chicago yesterday and saw a nice 68 longhorn camper. The friendly owner from Iowa spent about 20 years restoring both of them. The 72 wrecker is a little rough, but is hemi powered!? My friend brought his GT40 and it made the cover of the program. A really good show and met some talented craftsmen

Re: Our trucks at MCACN

I went last year and was completely blown away at the cars they had there. Very good show.

Looks cool. What was with the bare frame?

Boy Kirk, that's some prime stuff there. Two great Chevys in the El Camino and Monte Carlo. Your friend's truck is the best of course (for me). Hemi 'Cuda convertible in Sublime? That has never been anything but a WOW car. About that wrecker. Somebody give that man a Chevy hubcap (or even a Dodge). That Ford cap just ain't right!

What was the story behind the Vette rolling chassis? Was it a GM demo?

That ford cap jumped out at me too- maybe he was trying to represent the “big three “? The vette frame is a cutaway (zoom in on the trans and diff). Not sure where GM displayed them? The guy that owns this one has another one that he’s had for years

Re: Our trucks at MCACN

That "back in the day" '69 Camaro is right in line with what I would like to do to a 67-72 truck if I still had money to be building trucks. Trick paint, Cragar SSs, vinyl top, chromed parts, roll n pleat. Talk about era correct. I'm sure, like with so many other truck build ideas I've had, someone else will be getting to it. Picking an era and going with it has always been a thing for me. Even less popular one. It's about "creating" a time capsule, the same as 100% factory restoration only different
