Red face 1975 Chevy Silverado Gas Tank Set Up

Hi guys! New here. We just got a 75 Chevy Silverado. I noticed we are spilling gas when we take off and then after a more careful inspection realized there is an open spot on the gas tank. I'm not sure what the setup is supposed to look like. Any help is appreciated.

There not suppose to be an open spot.

Pictures would help.
Sounds like you need a new filler neck hose or a new tank.
