Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

So is the socket necessary to get the hydroboost out of Astro? I havent went to pick mine up yet and was wondering if I needed it to remove it or just to take OEM brackets off of it when it is out? Also does anyone know if I still have the drums on the back can I use the master cylinder from a vehicle that had discs all the way around?

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

No you do not need the socket to remove the unit from the vehicle. Depending on the shape of the factory bracket, you may or may not need the socket to remove the factory mounting bracket. Some of the Astro vans' factory brackets will bolt right up to my booster brackets.

If you have a disc/drum brake system on your truck, you should run a disc/drum master cylinder with the disc/drum proportioning valve.

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

If you are working on a '67-'72, then yes you will need either booster bracket that I make for the '67-'72's and this hydroboost mounting plate. Then everything will bolt up without drilling any more holes in your firewall.

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

I'm very interested in your booster bracket and hydro-boost adapter plate. Any idea if the hydro-boost unit will bolt up to a 67-70 drum/drum master cylinder?

That master should work as long as it is the power brake master.

No I don't. No one has posted any installed pics that I know of for the '67-'72's. There are a couple of the '60-'66's though.

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

So I mocked up the Hydroboost on my 72 firewall. Ended up getting one out of a 99 Chevy 3/4 ton van. Not complete yet but these pictures will give you an idea of what it will look like. I did not even need the little square plate as the bracket that was on the hydroboost fit perfectly into the bigger bracket. Will post more when I get more done. Now I decided to go with disc brakes all around so have to figure out a master cylinder that will work

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

That looks good on there. Yeah some of the OEM mounting plates will work with my booster bracket. Some of them are offset though, and not centered as that one is. So we can add the mid to late 90's full sized vans to the list of hydroboost with the correct flat mounting plate.

For a disc/disc master you can use the '63-'82? Corvette unit.

Thanks for posting a pic of your install

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

Would this one work? BENDIX Part # 11749
And do you happen to have any idea what size the outlets are on it? I THINK that it is 1/2 on the one circuit and 9/16 on the other.

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

Comparing the numbers, I would say it is a '77-'82 Vette master. The A1 Cardone part number is #101423 for the '67-'76 unit, and #101749 for the '77-'82 unit. A brand new '77-'82 unit is #131749. I don't know what the difference is between the 2 year groups. They both show to have a 1.125" bore.

I do believe the 2 fitting sizes are 1/2" and 9/16"

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

Looks like this is the way I want to go. So, what year Astros use the HB? Are they all disc/drum and is that master appropriate for a disc/drum C10? Where is the prop valve on the Astro? Probably different threads for the brake lines huh? My current set is was manual drum/drum and I've done a front disc swap. Any old pump will work if you tee the return lines?
Thanks!

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

I believe all Astro/Safari vans had the hydroboost except for the first few years. I'm pretty sure from '90 and up would have them. Pull and Save usually has several Astro/Safari vans. I don't remember just where the prop valve is. I'm thinking it is right next to the master. One of my customers is using the Astro master on his pickup. Seems to work fine. Yes you can use a standard pump and just tee the return lines.

Here are some pics and info on the Astro/Safari master in Bubba327's thread

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

These hydroboost adapter plates are a direct fit you any of my booster brackets. There are some OEM hydroboost mounts that alse have the same pattern. My booster brackets are a direct bolt on for the given application, so you do not have to drill any holes in your firewall. The only modification you will have to make is to lengthen the pushrod. There are a few pics in the link posted above.
