'73/Early '74 GMC Tailgate

I got this for my Jimmy with soft top but decided to keep body and paint original. You don't find these a whole lot. No rust ever,a few dents, and straight. Oh yeah, fugly paint! I paid $250 and that's what I'm asking. I accept postal money orders SOLD locally!!...thanks

Re: '73/Early '74 GMC Tailgate

It looks kinda bowed in the picture for some reason. It looks straight to my eye. Here are the two dents on top,one looking along the bottom, and the first two going across the bottom from the right. No rust!

Re: '73/Early '74 GMC Tailgate

Well, I think shipping killed a deal with Karl. Never heard back after the quote. So,here it is,a rare tailgate that just needs a little body work and priced accordingly.

Re: '73/Early '74 GMC Tailgate

My PM box was almost full and I wiped out all my sent messages. I just checked them and there's only my follow-up to see what his decision was. He was saying he'd be up this way later this month,as well,so it may not have been that bad. I guess he just decided he didn't need/want it.
Greyhound would be cheapest. If that works for you let me know your station info. Otherwise give me your zip.

To The Top. I wanted to give Karl time since he's an OTR trucker and said it was difficult to make time to deal with this. It's been quite a while,so here it is. again.

She's rare 'n' to go! Not that I'd mind hanging onto it. Just figured I'd help someone get a rare bird rather than have it sit stashed for several more years.

New price...$300. I hate when stuff doesn't sell cheap, don't you? I guess I'll hold off a while, but I think rare and cheap makes people wonder,so soon I'll just start a new thread asking $300 for this rare US steel

Re: '73/Early '74 GMC Tailgate

Still available. Rare, correct, rust free. Still only $250. It's a $300 tailgate that should cost less than that to get to your door (or Greyhound station)

Re: '73/Early '74 GMC Tailgate

Back up for November. Ugly reflectors and crappy paint, but no body work. It would take very little body work (dent or two) to be restored like new. No repro on these

Re: '73/Early '74 GMC Tailgate

Actually,my '72 K2500 has a 67/68 GMC tailgate on it. That's how it was when I got it. I have a later tailgate for it when the day comes to restore it. It has one dent near one of the letters,IIRC. it's not a bad dent. It has a tailgate band hiding it now. So,lots of tiny holes.

Re: '73/Early '74 GMC Tailgate

In the very N/W tip of Maryland we get all that snow, believe it or not. Here in the Piedmont we never know. But,I meant I'd like just a few long lanes locally to push snow, then go play. I used to contract and, while the money was great,it was too demanding for my style. And,we have fickle winter weather. When we expected the snow we'd get not enough to plow or just ice. When we didn't expect it we'd get pounded. Of course,we were there waiting regardless. They'd freak out until we were on the site...hurry hurry! Then,it would be 80 degrees out by the time we got paid one lump sum that they'd try to chisel down after we payed out all the expense for 3-4 months. We bought Urea by the truck load. The whole reason we did it was to supplement our winter income when construction slowed down. I'm back to wanting to supplement my winter (annual) income and having a play toy old plow truck to go help a few neighbors out while putting some cash in my pocket would be cool. And if I ever end up back on the mountain at the family place,I would need it

Re: '73/Early '74 GMC Tailgate

well I decided to use this one for its simplicity, I would have preferred a SWB but I wanted a stick for the creeper gear. I also like the fact it is a belt driven hydro pump. the plug in electric stuff is fine until it decides to act up... the old school is all mechanical / hydraulic. and simpler. besides it makes a GREAT excuse to take on this truck.
as a highways maintenance engineer, NY Lives to SALT the dog sheit our of the highways.. so out vehicles are some of the rustiest junk in the world.

Yep,all to keep the wheels of progress rolling...to nowhere. We could all own nice older vehicles as our only vehicle if people were willing to let the snow slow them down a while.like it did throughout history. Gotta keep those bankers rich

Re: '73/Early '74 GMC Tailgate

Tailgate hasn't sold yet. This would be a cool custom touch on other year GMCs,too. Since no one has wanted it as is,I'm thinking when the weather warms up I'll strip it down to clean metal, take more pictures, fix the dent, take pictures, then prime in epoxy primer, and bump the price up significantly,if I don't decide to put it on my Jimmy. I'm sure, once in prime bolt-on condition, the person restoring a 73/74 would see the value and pay the price. If someone would like to have this in that condition it can be arranged. Still $200 as is

Look up shipping on a Greyhound bus. MUCH cheaper than the usual shipping companies.
