MAPT Tech for those interested.

Figured I'd put some info up on this since I've talked about it in a few posts here and there.

Scenario: You decide your awesome (check), and want to ditch your MAF because either you have to, or you want to. Fine. So you have a few beers and take the MAF out of your intake path. Fine. Then your tuner comes by (your tuner comes to your house right )...and starts tuning for SD. Fine.
He starts a solid tune, but then one of two things happens
1. You realize you have no IAT function anymore on your scanguage/racepak/interceptor.
2. The tuner says results would be better if he had a temp base, or makes the caveat that you may experience changes in power levels in so-and-so temperatures. (this can happen with SD in general to an extent, but humor me for the sake of this post).

So what do you do?

You can put the MAF back in, and just force-fail the MAF function, using it for Temp alone. Ok, but you STILL have that damn MAF in the intake tract.

You can buy one of the older style stand alone IAT sensors. This is a more common option, its a simple install. But again, now you have an additional sensor that has to be located/drilled into the intake. Not the end of the world, but not the worst.

OR, you can try what we are working on. The LNF motors (ecotecs) use something called an MAPT. ManifoldAbsolutePressue-Temp. Why is this cool? Well it allows the placement of a new MAP (which happens to be boost friendly) that also has an IAT function built into it. This means one less actual sensor to run, and ideally a cleaner install. This means you have a temperature reference back to the ECM, and aren't shooting in the dark. IAT is a nice thing to know when logging!

Obviously doing this will require changes in the tune, and changes to the IAT scales, but it should be a fairly doable task. I don't really have pictures of anything to put up at the moment, but I'll give you guys a part # to look at if your considering or looking for an option.

Re: MAPT Tech for those interested.

Interesting.

I've never run without an IAT sensor in SD, simply because I NEED the ECU to know what the intake air temp is, in boost.

Is that only a 1 bar setup, or do they offer a 2, 2.5, or 3 bar version?

Re: MAPT Tech for those interested.

Answered my own question. Seems to be a 2 or 2.5 BAR sensor.

Don't forget to re-scale your MAP table too.

Ya we switched the truck to the HP Tuners SD II Custom OS, so we're capable of 2bar as it is (still need to adjust MAP as you said). Since I'm not running boost (yet), we actually put together a nice tune in a more unusual way.

We logged the IAT data a bunch of times pre-sd and used an interpolated version of that. Its not a perfect tune, but we did it end of season as a placeholder, since we already knew the truck would get the new heads and most likely longtubes in prep for this season.

Re: MAPT Tech for those interested.

Very interesting, thanks
This may solve my problem of not having 6 to 10 inches of straight plumbing from the air cleaner to the intake yes/no?

No...what you are referring to is for the Mass Air Flow sensor...this is a Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor and Intake Air Temp sensor combo.

Re: MAPT Tech for those interested.

Well, it would work for him IF he was willing to convert to SD tuning also. Then he could ditch the MAF, and run one of these if he chose to.

Re: MAPT Tech for those interested.

Thanks folks for some more education, learning one sensor at a time!
