The chunk I received included 2 small lengths of the brake cable, which had threaded rods instead of ball ends, so I think its from either a '63 C10 or GMC pickup.

I didn't want to replace the ball end cables on my '64, so I purchased parking brake cable connectors and used stainless bolts to tie everything together. I originally used the threaded rods by swaging aluminum stops onto them, but felt they weren't going to hold up so I went with the bolts and I'm much happier. Without the bolts and connectors, my p-brake cables are about 2" short of connecting.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Forgot to post a pic of the painted engine.

I polished the button heads and put them on the timing cover.

I am trying to find a pair of script valve covers but no dice.

How about picture of that falcon in the back ground? Looks like a 65 from here... I had a 63 (rounded front fenders), loved it!

Wow, great eye. I see that falcon now that you point it out. Guess I'm blind.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Yep it's a 65 futura 4 door. I did all sorts of work to get it running but didn't do the bottom end. Unfortunately, 6 months after getting it going, it threw a rod.

I am in the process of switching to a hopped up 2.3 liter mustang engine and repainting it.

Here's a pic of it right after I got it running:

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I'll make you really sick when I tell you that I only paid $350 for it and it has only a few bubbles in the paint, no dents, a newly rebuilt C4 and all the original trim.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

The truck has been running a little rough lately and thought I would take a look at the plugs.. From the picture the Bosch plugs on the right was what came out of it and the AC Delco plugs went it.. There is a night and day different between the two and could not believe what the PO put in.. It ran a whole lot better, but still needs a little tweaking!

So I take it the taper seat plugs were supposed to be in there? The thread on that Bosch are so long, lucky the piston didn't hit it!

No hitting issues, but I checked to see what stock plugs for this engine and the AC plugs I have are what it calls for.

Spent a couple of hours cleaning up the garage and doing some minor reorganization so I'll be ready for the next project.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Picked up a complete fleet side short bed today. Went to buy the rear bed rail and came home with the whole bed and also two brand new inner fenders still in the box. Got a great deal on everything, I couldn't pass it up. Now I have 2 complete swb beds. This picture is after I took it apart.

Good for you! Those are not easy to find affordably and in good condition when you really need one.

I broke mine today. Something in the rear end let go. I'm going to trailer it home from work on Friday to assess the damage. It was a wonderful way to start my morning...

I am forced to make my own short bed... I can't find anything good for a sane price...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Started blasting the intake and got all the steel needed to make the flatbed.

Now, I just need to weld it up and then decide on which species of wood. I am using pine temporarily to align everything and get spacing. Right now, I am leaning towards spalted maple with a clear coat or ash stained yellow to match the color the cab will be.

The big hardwood supplier here closed down so I will have to have whatever I use custom cut. That means $$$.

How bad would you cry if I said I gave $160 for everything on the trailer? I took the Bed apart. It was complete. Can't believe the brand new inner fenders also. I really needed some. I'm probably going to sell the bed. I only needed one bed rail.

Interesting, this thread has been going on for a few years. I'll jump in.
Started on my 71 GMC stepside today, got the pass side drip rail off for replacement. Some minor rust on pass side.

I got 1 long bed for $60 and another for free.
I took an 8" long 2" thick door slab and made a "bench top" out of that and then welded up some brackets and clamps and made a jig that is bolted to to the top to hold the bedsides while I cut, weld and work on them to make short bedsides out of all of them. (4 sides)
I have 5 trucks to build, 3 short beds and 2 long.
The cheapest shortbed i have found is $300 and it is a rusted, twisted piece of crap. (no bed rails) I wouldn't give the guy $50 for it.
Best deal I have come across for 60-66 parts was at an estate sale where I found a core support, a right and a left fender that were all in old faded GM boxes. I paid $50 for all 3 pieces.

Received my shipment from CPP today. (only took 2 weeks to ship) Two boxes got lost and still on there way. Got 2.5" drop spindles, 1" front drop springs, cross drilled rotors, bearing and seal kit for rotors, CPP powder coated calipers, rear trac bar for the new 9" I'm putting together with disk brakes, shocks all four corners, rear sway bar, trailing arm bushings, rear spring hold down brackets for the 4" drop coils and cab mounts. I feel a cold coming on fast and might have to call of work tomorrow.
