When I installed the ZZ4 we used a Bobcat tractor to pull in and out. Pulling out was worse since we had to pull the tranny with it then we smashed the new radiator

The purpose of the bracket and the strap is to get the entire length of the arm to bear the load. If there are large imbalances of force sufficiently far apart from each other that creates a leverage that can bend the tubes.

I agree but i would go with the lawyer and consumer affairs before going for the refund and get the word out there abought pep boy's and this crap that is coming out of china taiwan ect

You should have never put a big block on our piece of s***" lol That is scary tho, I just pulled a cab off a truck about an hour before reading this. Glad you didnt get hurt. Nice to see that back brace did it's job...NOT! good thing nobody was hurt. A fully dressed big block weighs what 800-850 pounds and a trans with the converter maybe 150 or so thats only half a ton. maybe those stencils on the side are for pounds.

Here is one I got at Kragens a while back for $139 on sale. The ram is in the same place as yours but it also has plate steel reinforcements.

That hoist has a plate because of the two piece design of the boom.

These things are bolted together.No material should fail before the hardware.A bolt would shear before the boom bent if you had overloaded it.Since the lighter holes are unused,I can`t think of what you could have attempted to lift that weighed over 3000#.If it`s "rated" at 3,000# it should handle at least 10% over that for the manufacturer's liability.
I`ve used my cheap old Harbor Freight hoist for over 15 years.I`ve hoisted several diesel motors which outweigh a big block.I lift cabs and whatever.A hoist is just a simple construction,not much to it.It`s just a bunch of square tube welded and bolted together in triangulation,the strongest design known.The top strap didn`t even bend when the tube did?That was a defective piece of steel.
You could drive your truck front wheels,big block/trans and all,up onto a span of that stock and it won`t kink.

The only way I could see it as misuse would be if the motor was coming out and was bound up on something and the jack was pumped until it gave way.

They gave me another hoist and so far everything has been fine with it.
