Doing a little buffing on the ol 85 C20

Well The clear coat is LONG gone but I figured what could it hurt getting some compound on that old paint.

I'll throw pics in here as I go!

And here's a pic of the truck, really shows that dull paint....That way we can compare when I'm done!

My red suburban is the same way....
Are you just using rubbing compound?
With a buffer or by hand?

Blake, I'm using a buffer, and it seems to work better than by hand. Its a rubbing compound I'm using also.

I'll probably follow up with some wax

Use polishing compound or Ultimate compound before waxing, takes the abrasion out. My truck came from AZ and was dulled and I was just playing around and it polished up better then new! Cant wait for finished pics!

Re: Doing a little buffing on the ol 85 C20

I used 3m perfect it pads, 3 different ones. A white one for rubbing compound, another white one for polishing compound, and the black is for buffing wax. They are about 80 for all three, but i don't think you can find them at an auto parts store.

You're probably gonna wanna use ultimate compound and wax on the tahoe, I wouldn't use rubbing compound on newer paint.

buffer, one of those big variable speed ones from harbor freight, works great. Looks like a big grinder, you know?

Those pads are 3M perfect it, and are $80 bucks for the 3, and then I just bought regular rubbing compound and polishing compound from auto parts store. Then your choice of wax. Buff it after the wax and it really shines.

Thanks guys!
