Re: Computerized huh?

Well, if mine were burned up I'd probably pay the $50 pretty quick for a used one. They do go bad sometimes, like anything old they'll wear out.

Re: Computerized huh?

Well, you have an 86 model. Take your glove box out and look up behind it. You will be surprised I bet. Doesn't have to just be a truck with throttle body injection.

Re: Computerized huh?

GM used these computers in 83 and beyond model year trucks and cars. They were for vehicles equipped with the Computer Controlled Quadrajet. They also were put in vehicles with the electronically controlled distributors.

Re: Computerized huh?

My 83 had that "computer". I removed it. I didn't need ESC on my new engine. Sold the box here to another member. It still worked.

Means you have a vacuum advance distributor in the truck now, and your cruise doesn't work.

The ECM's controlled very little on these trucks until 87 when the TBI came out on some models. Every truck I've ever done that was an 86 and older had the computer yanked out of it since it wasn't needed after all the upgrades and refurbs it got.

Re: Computerized huh?

That's called an Electronic Spark Control computer. Lots of trucks had them in the early 80s up through the change over to TBI in 87.
