Re: My 64 Project

A few more progress updates: got the doors painted and hung. Also got the trim back on. Then started in on the bedsides. Had a buddy that does sheet metal French in my 59 caddy tail lights.

Re: My 64 Project

Once he got done with the tail lights, I figured it still needed more, so I went ahead and swapped out the wheel arches for a set off of a 61 bel air.

Re: My 64 Project

Got the wheel arch finished up. Also made some trim rings out of stainless rod for the tail lights. I'll probably get those welded in this weekend and get the rest of the bed side in primer. If my measurements are right, the sweep on the wheel arch should end right about where the front edge of the bumper wraps around the side of the bed.

Looking good and it's cool to see some mods that are outside of the ones normally seen. Keep at it!

Re: My 64 Project

Got a little bit more done on here. Moving a bit slower with the cold and the holidays, but still trying to keep moving forward. Got the passenger side finished up and the trim rings for the tail lights tacked on. Started on the drivers side wheel arch and some rust repair as well. Got it mostly roughed in today. Now just need to start filling and sanding. Bondo and paint make me the body man I ain't!

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Love your truck! Do you know the width and back spacing on your rear wheels? I'm wondering if 275-60R15 drag radials will fit on the rear of my 64 C10 with 3" lowering springs at the rear. I've got a pair of 15" x 8" rally wheels - I think the back spacing is 4.5".

I'd have to check the back spacing on these wheels, but I've got that exact size tire on there now and it didnt rub anywhere aside from one of the wheel arches that was dented in, and even then it wasn't too bad. I think you should be good to fit on your truck.

Re: My 64 Project

Busy busy busy weekend. Got the bed assembled and mounted back on the truck. Absolutely in love with how it turned out. Now to fab up the mounts for the bumper and get a few other odds and ends buttoned up. Also have a set of white walls inbound, so I'll ne changing up the wheel/tire look as well.

A++ on the SS tail-light bezel idea. Bumper from the same source or different model?

Thanks man! Bezels are actually hand made, had some stainless rod that a coworker and I bent up and hammered into rings. The bumper is a 59 Buick. Saw a 50s fleetside truck with one forever back and decided I definitely needed to try and make it work on mine.

Re: My 64 Project

Thanks for the compliments guys! Little weekend update, got a little bit done but not much. Working on fabbing up the bumper brackets still. Got one done, and got the other ready to cut. This has been a challenge getting everything to work, but hopefully I've got it figured out. Once they're together I'll throw some por15 on them and some paint and bolt everything together finally!

Re: My 64 Project

This truck has been kicking my ass today, so instead of fighting it more, I'll make another progress post. Got the bumper finally hung, but will need to brace the brackets due to a little more play than I would prefer. Also got the tail lights installed. Need to get them wired in now. Not sure what the deal is with the pictures. Anyone know if there's a way to rotate them once attached?

Re: My 64 Project

A few other odds and ends knocked out: hit the floor with some por15 to make sure its adequately sealed up before I throw a floor mat over it. Got a set of fog lights from a coworker and mounted them up. Not sure if they'll stay or wind up going on my other 66. Also finally got some of my white walls mounted up and on the truck. Changes the whole dynamic drastically and I absolutely love it! Also got some 6x9 brackets mounted in the cab so I can have some tunes once I finally am able to start cruising.
