Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

yeah mine has the dash cut and the doors cut. Even small speaker holes in the kick panels for speakers. Its all cut up lol. So who cares? If I redo the truck I'll fix it all but may leave the dash. I have one of those aluminum trim pieces for a cd player that I could use.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

Started piddling once I got home. Just now came upstairs and ate.

I got the lock set installed. I got the passenger door back together. I cut the hole correctly in the drivers door. It wasn't as bad as the other. Lubed everything. Glued the run channel at the top after moving it up where its supposed to be. Replaced the dome light plunger on the drivers side. Replaced the drivers outside door handle with one from my 68 GMC. It was in better shape. Replaced the e brake handle with a better looking one. I ran out of the door panel clips so had to stop there. Tomorrows another day..and the stereo sounds way better now.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

Yeah, Chuck, my truck is totally uncut, and I spent a bunch on the stereo, and I thought the one I had in my 72 that was cut all to pieces sounded better. I have never turned my nose up at one with a cut dash, I just hate to see some of the ones that look like they were done with a hacksaw.

Haha... It looked like it was done with a jigsaw..badly. I got the drivers door back together but the clips that I bought didn't pull the door panel up close like its supposed to be. I'll have to get some different ones and redo it. I bought a license plate light and a connector for the 7 pin for the trailer.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

That same truck I had with the cut dash also had one of those 80's style ball and socket maplights for a dome light. When I removed it since it didn't work anyway, It revealed a gaping hole that looked like it had been kicked out by Chuck Norris lol. Your truck is really lookin good, though!

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

Thanks Matt. Yours is too.

I tinkered with my lights today. I installed a set of underdash lights and a glovebox light in the truck. It makes a world of difference. I also installed a new dome light and some new front side markers that a board member gave me when I bought his door handles and mirrors. I'll put them away for this truck when it gets a redo.

If any of you want these lights I sell them heres the links

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I've always been a fan of under dash lights. Are those bulbs amber or is that just the way it looks on my screen?

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I put the new door panel clips on. They pulled them up tighter. I used the black ones and cut a notch on them to install on the panel. These work a lot better than the white ones. Once you go black...

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I lucked up at the junk yard today and ran across some new rotors and brake pads and an idler arm and a caliper that looks new.

The rotors have surface rust but they have no wear marks at all. I got this while getting some parts for cubers build.

When Rus and I picked up the truck I remember he said that the brakes look worn. this should help a lot.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I looked at them closer today and the mounting lip is rusted. If you are going to cut them up then you could make a lip.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I put the tailgate band on and also bought a heat shield from Todd. My truck was missing it and I'll need to put it on before i get exhaust put on it. I also swapped out the black knob window cranks for some clear knob ones. I need to find a a/c controller without broken levers and some cables. Its missing some.I also need to find a saddle seat belt retractor. I have one parchment one. Go figure?? ?? this truck is growing on me. I need the title to come in.

Wow, you're doing great work! I can't wait to get mine far enough to where I can get the interior lamps working. Haha and I'm going to have to get me some black clips too.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

Your Welcome Matt. I went and got some grade 8 hardware and buttoned up my hitch. I took the old spare tire holder off and put my replacement on it. I want to switch one piece of all thread because i think its too short.I like to have a little thread coming out of the drop nut side and put a regular nut on to be safe. I don't trust the 30 something year old plastic threads on it to hold.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I wouldn't think that would be good to have that come loose while you were driving.
