Re: Strange Footsteps

New twist today. My painter said some weird guy came out of nowhere and asked him about the house and said he could haul the trash trailer away. And he didn't even have a truck or anything. And the trailer isn't full yet.
My painter didn't like this and he does not mince words and told this guy that if he ever saw him around this house again that he would kick his azz. And trust me ... He would.

So I told my wife. I'm moving in. God bless anyone that tries to get in there. I may not walk well but I can still shoot straight.

Re: Strange Footsteps

New posts being set for the fence today. Old fence is down and the back one is next. It's some progress. Now the outside looks as bad as the inside.
Oh well. You gotta break a few eggs to make an omelet.

The landscaping (what landscaping?) needs some attention. But first things first.

Re: Strange Footsteps

Is your property all on frontage? Or is it on a corner? If it's on a corner, I'm gonna ask for the over/under on how long it's going to take before some dodo takes out a corner.

BTW, one of my younger brothers had a girlfriend who had some property and heard footsteps. Went out with a shotgun and almost took out some San Bernadino County Deputy Sheriffs who were looking for a meth lab. No meth lab, but they kept visiting.

And whoever hauled the trailer in empty can haul it out full. A plan is already in place here, ya burnout!

I have never heard such a thing in my life. Who would allow a stranger to run off with their trailer? Sniff sniff... do I smell meth?

EDIT: Seriously!!! I posted before reading Paul's second post and just now, after posting mine, read SteveeDee's. We don't even have a meth problem around here, but I've read enough about it here to know the behavior

Re: Strange Footsteps

I'm not on a corner. But my place in Weldon is and some idiot took the turn way to fast but fortunately didn't hit anything.

The trailer was full of construction debris. And it's my painter's. That's why he told the crack guy that he would beat him up. It's his trailer.

OK, I had to go review the posts. I missed the one about the crack head, or simply forgot. That's wild stuff. I don't blame you for going and camping out there. Now, the whining starts. "I thought you were going to come down here and swill beer all night with me, at my rental house! Now I gotta do it all by myself!" On a positive note, the buyer and her realtor came over and took measurements. I don't know what for, the carpet and paint are in good shape. Hopefully it's for where to place furniture. They weren't there when I went over to put the green recycle bin away, and amazingly enough, all the doors were locked!

Re: Strange Footsteps

People these days will buy a house all good to go, even new stuff like carpet, and proceed to rip it all out and redo everything. People see me going through everything to make it all just right and say, "You know whoever buys will probably change everything". Whatever, this house represents me, half my life. I want it seen as the house a carpenter lived in and did everything to please himself, not some flipper doing a quick comb-over. They can change what they like. I'll probably never look back. It will be sold as a 165 year old house with no issues with quality evident everywhere you look, like someone really cared. And because of that the price will be firm. It's an old house. If you don't like something you can change it or don't buy it. Either you want it or you don't and the price is the price. I love the place, really want to relocate. But the area is actually really nice and if i have to stay here, so be it

Re: Strange Footsteps

I suspect there have been some strange footsteps here at my house lately. The wife came in telling me the loose gas cap message was on in her Yukon. She opened the filler door to see the cap was just sitting on there. She screwed it back in and said the gauge still read as it did the day before. She and I both always screw in the caps 3 clicks or 4 just a matter of practice. Since her rig sits under the carport someone would be somewhat hidden from view if they were to syphon some gas. The other rigs are outside in plain view with a streetlight on two corners of our property. I suppose someone attempted to steal some but couldn't get the hose down the neck far enough to get any.
I just put up some new motion sensor lights while re-siding the shop and the sensor is turned up a notch. Maybe it's enough to shew off the nighttime shoppers.

That's a positive thing, the buyer is serious if they're measuring and making sure the place is locked up.

If you're camping at your place and I'm camping at mine we could send smoke signals. Fun!!

My contractor has been MIA for a week but the guys have been working and weren't getting paid so I paid them myself and he's fired. My painter is in charge now and things seem to be moving along better now. One guy quit. He doesn't get along with the painter. The painter pushes him to work harder and he doesn't like that. He very vocally said "F' this job! and walked out. The painter just shrugged and said that he knew a better guy and could probably get him there in a day.

I can't say that I blame the guy for quitting. The painter was giving him all the chit grunt jobs to do and he wasn't getting paid. Once I paid him he had had enough. So much drama with these guys. Almost as bad as my family. No.. My family is worse.

I had the same with my Jaguar. I put 3/4 of a tank in it and now it registers 1/4 tank. But my gas gauge may be screwy because then it said 1/2 a tank. But it was at 1/4 again the last drive. It was parked in front of the strange footsteps house (no room in the garage it's full of moving junk). Who knows? Maybe the strange footsteps needed some gas? It might just be the gauge. At least it's in the shop now and they pull it in at night. I told them to take their time. I'd rather have it there than at my mess. That fence can't come fast enough. But it's raining again today.

Maybe the stranger who offered to dump the trailer will slip up and offer to fix your pool wire he heard about through the grapevine

Could be. But I think the painter nipped that in the bud. He's a big mean guy. He told that guy to get lost or he would beat him to a pulp. When he says he'll kick your azz. He means it. He really will.

I hired a painter and got a bouncer too.

Re: Strange Footsteps

I was just suggesting, in a comically cryptic way, that this stranger could very well be the wire nipper. I sure hope so, or you have more than one bad seed in the neighbor you bought a house in that you haven't even moved into yet. Once the painting's done you lose your bouncer

Maybe the said painter could be invited back for "touch ups" if needed.

Reminds me of a house that I once looked at. New everything inside and out. These people spent a bunch of money on this place. Just one problem. It was all ugly stuff. Not to my taste at all.

That's why I almost always buy fixer uppers. Who cares if you rip out a bunch of junky old stuff. They are a massive pain but in the end you get it to the way you like it and not what somebody else wants.

The only house that I ever bought that was turn key was my house in Wofford Heights. It was like new. The previous owner had it custom built for his retirement and passed away before he could move in. What a drag. You build this place and never get the chance to use it.

Re: Strange Footsteps

When I found my house in '86, we had come to the area one day to look at another old place right by town. It had been all gone over in as cheap of a way as possible, dropped ceilings (rather than dealing with plaster work, indoor/outdoor grade carpet, window openings with drywall and corner bead wrapped to the windows. Plus, it was close to I-70. Everything I hate that people would do to a cool old house. I told the realtor it was a shame they had done all that work. I'd hate to pay for that in the price. First thing I would do is tear it all out. I'd rather do my own work

She said, "We have a couple who works with our office with a house they have recently taken off the market. I think they still would like to sell it. They are in Vermont on vacation but I can give you directions if you'd like to have a look to see if you might be interested."

We took a look, peeked through the windows, and saw it was log. A door was unlocked and we slipped inside for a look. We couldn't wait for them to get back and were hoping real bad they still wanted to sell it. So we called the realtor and said, "We might be interested. But, of course we would need to see the inside first". And, "It would depend on how much they'd be asking. Let us know when they get back if it is available. We do have others to look at".
