Re: Got Rust?

That cowl on the tub doesn't look that bad, what makes it so you have to swap out the cowl???

Sorry I'm not near your neck of the woods...I would help out

It has some rust holes in it and is beat up bad. The worst part is that the w/s frame is tweaked and I was told that it was rolled, although it doesn't look that bad. I got the copper firewall/cowl with it but the top of the w/s frame on that one is rusted, soooo I will be doing some major surgery before it's done.

It's too bad for me that you're not closer as it appears that you have a lot of knowledge and really know what you're doing. I've been watching your build thread for quite some time...nice job.

I will post pics this weekend.

Thanks for the comps.but appearances may be deceiving. I'm more of a problemsolver type of guy, and I like to challenge myself. That's why I buy rusty beat up cars that no one else wants, it's all just a challenge and this could be my last one. Funny thing is my youngest son does the same thing, only differance is he could afford to buy nice stuff to start with! I guess the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree

VT is the one that did a cowl swap before, that amazes me. Mine was technically never in two pcs., major holes were there but it was still one shell...Good luck, I'll be watching if I can be of any assistance....J.

I'll bet it's pretty cool watching one of your offspring follow in your footsteps like that. I'm hopeful that will happen with one of mine.

VT is another one on this board whom I have learned a ton from. The work he does is top notch as well. And there are many others as well with a lot of knowledge to share. That is what makes this such a great deal for $25 a year. The info on this board is worth much more than that.

OK I'm done, now I need to get some work done.

The factory seam sorta hooks around itself.
Do the separation slowly/carefully and it'll be clear what needs to happen.

First two show the truck firewall/floor
Second two show the blazer tub
Last pic is terrible but you can at least see the two different parts together.

So hey...have fun with it.

Re: Got Rust?

Well here is what I found when I pulled the rear panels off. The mice seamed to love it over the years, boy did it stink.

What do you guys think...should I replace the mounts?

Things went pretty well today. I should have the tub off tomorrow and start on the frame.

Yup...rip & tear it is. I'd like to get the top off and the tub freed up, if not off.

As for bringing it over for paint...hmmm...that would be quite a road trip. I'll have to ponder this one.
