Project... Tinker !!!

Well guys, as some of you know this used to be my dads truck, but recently I acquired it as of some trading around

Just a recap from the old thread

(I just knew I had before pics, but I was wrong )
Put a 4-barrel intake on er
I bead-blasted & powder-coated the intake & air filter cover, then put on some different valve covers

This is what Im shooting for some day

Thanks
It was just a nasty pitted chrome air cleaner before, but it turned out nice with the satin black powder coat

Re: Project... Tinker !!!

Well a simple project just doesnt exist does it
All I wanted was to put on some dang headers !!!

But after fighting with it ALL day I finally got some on
The first pair didnt fit, so I had to rob Sinister of its headers
And in the end I got em on...

I had to fix the header flanges as I drug them off in Houston

While trying to get them on, I found that I had bad engine mount rubber
So I replaced those

Re: Project... Tinker !!!

Well I didnt get the trans swapped yet

I just have to work on my engine, its screaming "Give me a big cam !!!"

So I decided to run the 305 heads & mod them to run on pump gas (its a secret), it shouldnt change my compression ration much so I should be good

Also gonna put the cam out of Sinister in it & for those of you who heard Sinister, will know how radical it sounded in a engine that is 67ci bigger !!!

Re: Project... Tinker !!!

When you installed that cam the first time, did you idle the engine on the firs startup or did you keep it abouve 1200 rpm for 30 minutes? If you dont keep it above 1200 you will round the lobes off.

Re: Project... Tinker !!!

I dont know, my brother built the engine

I know he's about as picky as me & I dont think that would be what caused it, but I wasnt there so IDK

The thing that gets me is, he had it in one other engine when it was new & he said it sounded the same & he was trying to figure out why because its only supposed to be a 268H cam, so Im pretty sure he looked it over before he put it in my engine

Besides, its not all the lobes, just 2 of them are real bad & 2 more are getting bad, the rest of them look fine :|

Re: Project... Tinker !!!

I have a thought on your cam . If your brother didn't keep track of where the lifters came from as in order . If you mix em up after you remove em this will also cause them to eat themselves . Just a thought . Bob
