Anyone wanna help me decipher this gear pattern?

I am regearing a Dana 30 front end (not a c10, it's a Jeep)
Went from 4.10s to 4.88s, I'm having a pretty steep learning curve, to say the least.
I shimmed the pinion to get the pattern deeper into the ring. at .048 it was exactly the same pattern, just a bit deeper.
I removed some shims, this is with the pinion shimmed @ .042
Seems to be centered but the pattern is very narrow. backlash is perhaps on the tight side @ .006 but it is in spec.

My hunch is that the pinion is too deep??? ...If so how much(ish)?
I would really appreciate some input from someone with some experience.
