Angry 4/6 drop is giving me problems in the front fender rubbing?

Surely a few of you guys have done the 4/6 drop, same tuck, (mine a 69 with 71 front A-arms/disc) and I'm having a Serious bad RUB on the front end between the upper fender well and the tire.............. so how the heck do I take care of that?

a bigger bump stop maybe on the front end? bad idea probably...
or spacer under the front spring which would take away the awesome look of the drop causing to rise the front end up orrr???

man this is ridiculous. lol

Take the iphone pic sideways with the lower button in your right hand.
That will fix the upside down issue.

That does not look like it should rub.

Re: 4/6 drop is giving me problems in the front fender rubbing?

You need:
1) a front wheel with more backspace
2) a shorter tire
3) or both.

Looks like you could run a narrower tire on that rim

Re: 4/6 drop is giving me problems in the front fender rubbing?

That picture above is the day of the drop was put on: therefore the springs had "settled in" hardly at all.
I'm running 45x275x20 in the front and 45x295x20 rear. And the back spacing was customed ordered for front and rear at 4.5 offset or negative offset if i'm not mistaken. Not expecting this problem sadly. So no go on order a wheel with less better backspacing $$$$$

Curious? What about a spring spacer? That'd help wouldn't it?...well I guess depending on how big I go.... and of course switch out the 4 inch drop spring with a 3?

and what kind of narrower are you thinking? lol

It's just bugging me cause I see a lot of you guys running a 4/6 drop and why is it giving me this much trouble?
It's just crazy, It runs fine, but when I put much or any little Flex in the front spring/end it rubs... (big sigh boys) :-\

Most guys are running at least a 5" bs with that drop and a 20" wheel..

Re: 4/6 drop is giving me problems in the front fender rubbing?

ouch and ouch man. lol I was close but not at the exact point. :-\ boo.
Well I'm looking and I can get a 3 inch drop spring for around 85$ dollars. being a 3 inch drop spring it'll settle in a little and still give me a drop look but also give me another 1ish inch or so lift to help the rub. ..that's one opposition.

Who made the front springs? If you could run 4" drop springs before you can still use 4" springs. Yours are probably more like 5" drop now if they've settled.

""Western Chassis Deluxe - Complete Lowering Kit With Coils Only - Drop: 4" Front / 6" Rear""

What do you mean??
Are you saying go with 3" inch drop springs instead of the 4" inch they gave me with the 4/6? therefore going with a 3"inch they would settle to 4"inch drop not a 5" like you said after settling from a 4"??

Or would it be better to go with a spacer? I can go with a 2 inch spring spacer for around $50 bucks where I can get the coil springs for around $90ish

Re: 4/6 drop is giving me problems in the front fender rubbing?

Most guys run a 2.5" drop spindle with a 1.5" drop spring to get a 4" drop in the front, it will ride and handle much better this way.

I would say the 275 profile on the front is the main issue here... You would probably be good with 255...

Re: 4/6 drop is giving me problems in the front fender rubbing?

It's a safe bet that the wheel backspacing is your main problem. The front wheels stick to far out.

Were the wheels ordered before the drop?
When the wheels were ordered did you account for the 1.5" widening of the front end with the addition of disc brakes?

The added shimming to get alignment may also be causing a slightly wider track adding to the "rub".

Tell us more about what you did with your suspesnion?
Any drop spindles installed?

Here's a page with Western Chassis parts:
http://www.andysautosport.com/chevro...stern_chassis/
Which kit did you order?

I know on no front spring that will safety drop the front 4" with ONLY a coil spring change,... and successfully be able to align the front.
Plus your truck doesn't look that low in the front.
I assume your truck has coil springs on the rear also?
Did you change shocks?
Use rear shock relocators?
An adjustable track bar?

Give us more info or pics of your suspension.
Still my opinion,... you have the wrong wheel AND tire combo upf front.
Your rear wheels tuck way more than the front tires do.

A 20x8 Torq Thrust II will easily tuck with the correct backspace,...
(this is air'd out,... that's why it's cambered in)
20x8 with 5.25" BS.

Re: 4/6 drop is giving me problems in the front fender rubbing?

I'm going with the wheel/tire fitment theory. In the pic, you can see light hitting the tread, indicating that the wheel is quite a ways out compared to most people running a 5.25 bs set up. A 4" drop, regardless of brand shouldn't rub at all if the wheel/tire combo is correct.

Re: 4/6 drop is giving me problems in the front fender rubbing?

And it actually looks like its got some positive camber. It doesn't look like it would camber in at compression but rather be at a vertical angle that would cause it to go straight up into the fender, rather than 'lean' into the wheel well like lolife's pic illustrates.

Re: 4/6 drop is giving me problems in the front fender rubbing?

I think your cheapest option is just a front tire size change. A lower profile front tire gives you a little rake. Rake is not a bad thing!

Re: 4/6 drop is giving me problems in the front fender rubbing?

My wheel and tire specs with BS for the wheels. The wheels were ordered to custom fit the 4.5/6" drop and disc brake upgrade on my truck.

'69 CST-10 "Blank Slate" Wheel/Tire Specs:

Billet Specialties Vintec's
Front: 20x8.5" w/ 5.5" BS
- Center Bore: 3.430
- Bolt Pattern: 6 on 5.5"
Rear: 20x10" w/ 4.75" BS
- Center Bore: 4.250 (due to the center hub on the rear axle of my '69 [meas. 3.5"; BS only offered 3.43])
- Bolt Pattern: 6 on 5.5"

Toyo Proxes S/T ii's
Front: 255/40-20
Rear: 295/40-20

Re: 4/6 drop is giving me problems in the front fender rubbing?

Yeah, the wheels were ordered before drop sadly. I was thinking so fast I guess. And I bet the gentlemen who helped me do the figuring didn't catch that glimpse of trouble like I didn't counting the disc width or the width/275 either. :-\ ouch.
And you guys are touching some great points I'm keeping in mind. The front wheels got a huge "pucker" soo if I run thinner that'll for sure help like you said. (255 as you said)

I order from:
Andy's AutoSport online:
15005 Concord Cir
Morgan Hill CA 95037
US
1-800-419-1152

( Western Chassis ) Western Chassis Deluxe - Complete Lowering Kit With Coils Only - Drop: 4" Front / 6" Rear 71-72 C10 Early Classic 530.30 58.94 589.24
Total $589
Link: http://www.andysautosport.com/chevro...s00000437.html

[[it states "Coils only" but spindles came along]]
So, it came with if I remember correctly by looks a 2.5 drop spindles an 1.5 springs.

I ordered the shocks from "early classics" ...I didn't do any relocation on the shock brackets they fit fine. As of this time I'm in the fabrication of building a custom Track Bar by the descriptions/photos I've seen online. (length, etc.)

So: I've got it at the alignment shop taking a somewhat en-expensive fix as trial. I say that because the right tire doesn't have much of any problem rubbing when I flex the suspension pulling into the driveway or curb to study it. The left although does, so by eye I can tell I've got a ->pretty bad positive Amber to the left wheel and that's one possible chance why I'm rubbing when I flex it much at all.

So a week or two from now I should see and feel the difference after the alignment...and of course Christmas Vkay is over for the workers at the shop! lol
