Re: Here is my Project 1972 C20

I saw your run video by chance on youtube the other day. Glad to see you are getting it back together, hopefully it sees a lot more road time.

Re: Here is my Project 1972 C20

Most trucks with dime size rust holes in the rockers end up needing inner/outers, cab supports, and floor extensions once you get into fixing... same as yours. Every part is available to fix that rust.

I noticed it has a Custom Deluxe seat and the truck is a Custom, would have come with a vinyl cover. I imagine he found that seat at some point and put it in

That would explain some missing bolts.

Re: Here is my Project 1972 C20

I say the truck is worth saving just based on the history of it alone. The fact that it has been in your family all these years, and you have the necessary skills to bring it back to life is reason enough to forge on with this project.

I was the 2nd owner of a '62 Volkswagen that my Dad bought new when I was just a wee lad. He gave it to me in the early 90s in not running condition, but definitely restorable. It only had 90,000+ miles on it. I kept it in the garage for 10 years or so to keep it from deteriorating any further, but moved it in the yard. Eventually I sold it and have had seller's remorse since that time.

Re: Here is my Project 1972 C20

I learned about sellers remorse when I was a kid in the 60’s. Watched guys in and just out of high school sell their prized ride, for almost always a stupid reason. Times WERE different back then, though....

If you look I also temporally patched up the cab to stop some rust where the bed was rubbing the cab. just trying to slow the bleeding.

That bed rust is incredible, is the frame ok? It looks like they left a pile of leaking car batteries in there for 30 years...

there was 3 Batteries 2 VW engines and a bunch of leaves. the frame is ok has some rust but still has a lot of paint also. going to repaint it tomorrow with a brush. If I ever go full restoration I will have it powder coated but for now its better then nothing. I really just want the truck usable again.

She's really coming along nicely. And that bed looks to me to be the same color. What a find.

With all your hard work I think you are going to end up with a much nicer truck than expected.

Re: Here is my Project 1972 C20

The good part about all that rust is it makes cutting your bed up to scrap so much easier.

Hmmm... Well, I guess you wouldn't need to cut your bed up if it wasn't rusty.

Nevermind

Re: Here is my Project 1972 C20

Here's what I did today. Repaired an upper shock bolt the original said was broken so I drilled it out and put a 1/2" bolt through it. then painted the back part of the frame still have a few more spots to get. I still need to clean all the grease and muck off the rear axle before I paint it. Just used Rustoleum Gloss Black.

Re: Here is my Project 1972 C20

Put the Tires back on and Pulled it around with the lawnmower. Also, put the tailgate back on. Question why does the front sit so much lower. do you think someone lowered it or the springs wore out?

Re: Here is my Project 1972 C20

Could be the angle of the camera but the passenger looks lower than driver front side. And the rear looks too high in general.

My C/20 sits a little high in the rear. It could be the camera angle.
