^^ It’s true. And how many people actually restore a truck and install a shiny new “white” bumper?

I think that's where I'm going to take it. Keep the wheels black and go with a white bumper. It's a farm truck and I'd like to keep it that way. Just clean it up a little.

Re: Well I did it again. 1970 C 30

Well I finally got off my lazy rear end and ventured all the way across the street and picked the old girl up. Not the first time I've gone across the street to pick up on an old gal, but that's a different story.

She ran like a watch. My neighbor said the throwout bearing was making noise but I didn't hear anything. For a truck that's been sitting a couple of years it ran amazing. You just can't beat a Chevy motor.

Here she is with her sister.

No speaker holes in the doors. I'm going to have a heck of a time matching that paint. The truck doesn't look like it's ever been repainted but who knows??

And the cranking 8 track stereo. Someone must have been rockin out because they broke the volume knob clean off.

And as promised. The SPID. It's obviously for a different truck. Someone must have changed the glove box door at some time.

I have to look up what color the truck is. If anybody knows let me know.

You're right!! What a moron I am. That is my other truck.

Here's a lousy picture of the correct one.

And I am viejo. Muy viejo.

I'm knocking on viejo's back door. That does look like some special paint there. Armrests look nice and can see where the arm really rested on the door. Cool fence too man..

Re: Well I did it again. 1970 C 30

This thread had me laughing out loud a couple of times. Not at the truck, it's a peach! I like it a lot and your plans for it are cool. What elevation is your property at? Maybe you need to meet your buddies in the lowlands. What a crazy thing, both the heart attack and the fainting spell. Again, I really like the truck. I'm starting to think you might need to be taking applications for a fleet manager.

Yeah it's a weird color. But I like it and it's buffing out well. I have to touch it up. The primer on the hood bugs me. I need to get the paint code and see what I can do. The steering wheel and dash pad have suffered the wrath of the desert. They are crispy critters. But I don't want to change the color. I don't want to change anything. Just clean it up. The problem is that I do not believe that that color is reproduced. That could be an issue. Whatever. I'll figure it out. I haven't looked into it yet.

I like that fence too. This place used to be a horse ranch. I don't have any horses. They eat a lot and ch*t all over the place.

And you are not knocking on viejo's door. It's knocking at yours. It sneaks up on you. You don't see it coming. Trust this old man. I never saw it coming..

That isn't Medium Green? I see the SPID lists special paint. On my computer I see Medium Green. On a truck like that, with only HD options (except radio), I'd have to guess it was ordered in a company color. It's so close to Medium Green I don't know why they bothered. Is the truck a 6cyl?

That would be ( or gonna be) me. Thought about the chrome, but just like the painted bumper so much on my 70, especially since I found some painted NOS bumperettes for it.

Not a six cylinder. It's got a 350 Also has power brakes. I'm not sure if they are original but it looks like it. The booster looks stock.

I assume that you are correct on the special color. I'd bet that was a company color. That would explain why the door paint is all messed up. Maybe some company logos were poorly removed. That makes sense. I'd sure like to know which company it was. I'd like to find out the past of this truck.

Just a shot of a quick buff with some really crummy polish. (It's all I could get) Better stuff is on the way getting smashed by FedEx as we speak.

This was just a quick test to see what I'm dealing with. Not too bad for just a quickie. I've got new side marker lights already. I think she'll buff out. I'm optimistic.

Looks like a factory color to me, pretty close, anyway. IIRC, all '70 C/20 and C/30 trucks came with power brakes standard.

It could be a factory color. They had some that I'm not familiar with. Mike80D just posted his yellow (olive) C/10. Beautiful truck but I've never seen that color before either.

But this is most definitely original paint. I want to keep it original as much as possible. But it's obviously not in great shape. So we shall see how that goes.

The guy threw in another set of rims and tires, 2 carbs, and a couple of new HEI distributors. I didn't even ask for. The truck already has an HEI dizzy. Whatever. I'll take them. I guess he just wants to clean house. The price was right. More stuff on my garage shelf. Not his.

Re: Well I did it again. 1970 C 30

You probably have a GM HEI in the truck the previous owner bought used after those Ebay Chinacrap HEIs gave him trouble

I asked about the engine because I don't see the VIN and no engine option listed on the SPID and no fender badge. If original it would be a 307. I forget more than I knew. I guess the 4spd was standard in C/30s? It should be if it wasn't. But not shown on SPID. The '70 C/30 I owned had shocks as an option. Does this truck have shocks?

Re: Well I did it again. 1970 C 30

IMO, more common to see a government agency vehicle with special paint, city, county, water dept etc. The pale blue color makes me think water dept. Most private companies bought standard white trucks in the C 30 weight range. IMO, a white front bumper with matching sheen or gloss to the newly buffed out blue is in order

Good point, standard equipment is not listed, so the standard trans for the C 30 was the 4 spd and the standard V8 in the CE 30 series was the 307, hence no powertrain listing on spid. Usually 307's still have the 2 BBL carb still under the hood

It could be a 307 (I can't tell the difference) It does have a 2 BBL on it. The guy said it was a 350. I don't really care one way or the other.

Here's a pic of my spotless engine bay. What the heck...It runs good.

Re: Well I did it again. 1970 C 30

If you want to creep up (ref. your other thread ; ) on removing that black paint on the hood, I would start with goof off. And if that doesn't do it, then mineral spirits. And if that doesn't work, lacquer thinner will. You have to be careful though because lacquer thinner will eventually want to take off your original paint. On one of my trucks, the person painted over some areas that they had put bondo. They were much more liberal with the spray paint than necessary. So I removed it and will be touching up the spots. You could do something similar.

That original paint is hard to hurt. I've used stripper because I wanted bare metal. The repaint bubbles right up and comes off with the original paint looking at you. It's good to be careful, but I've never hurt original paint with lacquer thinner

Re: Well I did it again. 1970 C 30

Original engine color in '70 was moly orange. That appears to be a replacement, like a GM Target engine. They were painted that color blue before the Chevy engine was called "corporate" and used in all car lines except Cadillac, at least as late as '81. I've installed a bunch of 'em.. If it is a Target engine, you can look on the back of the block on the driver's side. The factory displacement is cast there.
