PAC (iSimple) IS75

Has anyone used the PAC IS75 iPod to RCA hookup to add new technology to their old school ride?

Mainly curious if the sound quality is there and worth the price. It's much cheaper than the Kicker version used in the CCT install.

Re: PAC (iSimple) IS75

I have one hooked up to my phone going straight to an amp. If you would have asked this question a month ago I would have said it was great. Unfortunately mine just failed and I have virtually no volume control anymore. I've had it for about a year.

Re: PAC (iSimple) IS75

I heard you had to add a volume control to it since it wouldn't work through the volume control on the ipod, iphone, etc. I was under the impression you had to add a separate controller.

Hate to hear it gave out on you.

We used one in the Hill's blazer. We hooked it up to an equalizer then to an amp. Works great. I'm getting one for my 63.

Re: PAC (iSimple) IS75

Thanks for the post fastbagged68!

I think if I decide to add tunes to my project this will be the way I go.

What kind of equalizer did you use? I've heard you have to add a volume dial as the iPhone loses the ability to increase or decrease the volume once connected.

Sound quality of a compressed signal via your phone wont get any better in your truck. If all you want is to listen to music in your truck thru your phone, this would serve, but quality isn't going to be possible.

Re: PAC (iSimple) IS75

I would say it matters more on how much sound quality you're trying to get out of the system. Most newer cars come with an AUX port on the front of the stereo for playing portable tunes via a stereo (headphone) jack. If you have done this and are fine with the quality of it, I would just go to Radio Shack and pick up something like this:

Stereo to RCA Y-Cable

You'd just plug the stereo jack into the ipod and the RCAs would be plugged into the AMP powering the speakers. The sound would be controlled through the iPod via the volume. You'd have to find a way to keep the iPod charged, but most people have a car charger already for this. I believe when you take the audio through the iPod pins (not the stereo jack) is when you need to add volume controls.

Re: PAC (iSimple) IS75

The issue with running straight headphone to RCA is the signal in the headphones is low (2v, maybe less) vs a deck RCA signal of more like 9v. My deck is an older Panasonic and has a headphone jack on the front. But it doesn't amplify the signal, so the volume is low.

The Pac Audio should (like my EQ does for me) amplifies the output of the device to the amp, but I don't see it anywhere on the site.

Any "line driver" should work. I am using an EQ to take the output of my tablet, amplify it, tune it, then run it to the amp. Should work out well.

Re: PAC (iSimple) IS75

So using the iPhone port to RCA connection won't result in a better signal than the headphone jack? I'm surprised with that.

Home stereos use this same type of conversion (different bypass within the unit) so I don't see where the sound would lack. Now... Using the headphone jack, sound quality would be horrible.

Not sure what I'm going to do just looking for an alternative to AM.

I don't know anything about an iPod jack as I don't use an iPod. But unless the iPod audio output signal is above 2v, then it would result in the same input level as the headphone.

Don't discount the audio QUALITY out of the headphone jack. People wouldn't spend $$$ on headphones if the quality of output wasn't worth reproducing. The issue is the output voltage of the audio signal from the device to the amp. Amps want a a higher voltage signal.

Re: PAC (iSimple) IS75

Got ya... thanks for the breakdown.

I've attempted using the headphone jack to headunit connection before and it resulted in a poor sound. When I use the iphone connection to USB connection in my truck, it comes through clear as day.

Time will tell. I'm working on other projects before I can even consider this one.

Re: PAC (iSimple) IS75

The "Aux" jack on my deck (Panasonic) is a pass through, no amplification of signal. It has a much lower volume than CD, your's might be the same. The USB port may be different, I know the USB imput in my old truck worked well with my MP3 player (JVC).

Re: PAC (iSimple) IS75

I bought a cable on Amazon for around $20, and a gain control you would use for a sub. Ran RCA from the apple cable to the gain control, the split it into a 4 channel amp. Not perfect, but sounded pretty decent, especially for using up some used stuff that was laying around a buddy's shop.

Re: PAC (iSimple) IS75

I have the isimple 571 and I'm hooking it up to a clarion eq then to my amp. This should sound good. The eq and isimple can be found on amazon for 1/2 the price. I have not installed my equipment yet but will be soon.

Re: PAC (iSimple) IS75

Thanks. I saw the isimple cable on amazon for atleast 1/2 off. I can't imagine the cable would sound that bad.

Re: PAC (iSimple) IS75

If you want a simple inexpensive amplifier with a remote volume control try this. We use it on our motorcycles and it works great. Amplirider, it can be hooked to 12 volt power and the remote is hard wired but can be lengthened or shortened. Kieth

http://electric-avenues.com/audio/amplirider/

One could then use a simple cord to adapt the inputs to the amp, mount the remote and away you go. good sounds-----volume control and multiple inputs.

I use my Iphone 4 headphone jack to RCA plugs all the time
as a line in/aux on TV or a radio even
The Iphone 4 i have, pops up a second vol on the bottom
sometimes i have to plug it in twice but it works fine
