Brake fluid canister

I have break fluid leaking out of the top of the canister. The gasket in the lid looks ok also is it normal for the lid to be able to slide around a little bit? The clamp is a little bent so it might not be as tight as it should. Brakes work fine, and its not a real bad leak. Any ideas cause im out lol.

I have the same problem
i took it to my school and my automotive teacher
tried everything changed the rubber,
slightly filed the very top a little
but it still leaks,
he told me i might just have to buy a new one
since he couldnt fix it

Might not hurt to throw a new gasket on there.
I had a brand new master cylinder that had a leaky gasket. It looked fine, but apparently wasn't.

I took my gasket to autozone and napa and oreilys and they didnt have any gaskets tha fit
i asked and took it in but nothing

Yeah I figured it would be the gasket. I don't think im gonna replace the whole thing but like you say it probably will be a pita to find one. Thanks guys for the quick answers. Oh and do you know if they sell a whole new lid with a gasket?

i asked autozone, the only lid and gasket that would look like it would fit is the fords gasket, but it wont

My circa 1977 master cylinder never leaked. My brand new 2 weeks of use one does and ruined the paint on several things. Really hate repops.

As far as I know its not a repop. Autozone and orielly both show to have the gasket in store, so I guess I need to start making a parts list....

Pop the retaining wire off, bend it a bit and put it back on. It should be hard to slide into place.
Do you have the rubber anti-slosh gasket inside the cap or are you trying to seal metal to metal.

I've bent the retaining wire and its stiff. I have the anti-slosh gasket, im gonna try one of those gaskets, and see what happens.

Bought the gasket. Wouldn't fit. Before I bought the truck it had been sitting for about a year so should I go ahead and just replace the MC?

You said it doesn't leak much and moves around easily!
Go buy a new cap. Comes complete with insert and new wire.

Found the exact same gasket at the scrap yard; it was in good shape so I bought that cap and wire doubled up on the gasket and it barely leaks. I will admit I accidentally put a little to much fluid in.

Did you just put the other gasket under your current gasket? Wondering because I still have my old MC cover with the gasket I could use.

The gaskets are bendix 222TI68. they just slip into the groove. I notuced pretty much all the MCs there would work with my repacement gasket. My MC is about a 1/4 in. longer and rounded at the top the the dorman one I posted earlier.
