I don't find that strange.

I has 1972 super with 402 and 3OTT with no tilt. Also had AC and sliding rear window, door edge guards and 3.08 rear gears.

What’s more interesting is that it wasn’t ordered with power steering

Kinda of funny to see a low option Cheyenne Super though. Our last 71 was a highly optioned Custom/10. Im guessing who ever ordered it didnt like all the wood grain stuff but wanted all outside stuff.

Not strange. My super does not have many options at all beyond what came with the super package. No tilt, no AC, no tach, no two tone.

Wait wut?

That has got to be the kookiest truck ever, they sprang for C-super, they sprang for the big engine and AC.......but they had a 3OTT?????????

This actually answers a question I had: Could a 402 be had with 3OTT? Yes it could!!!

Re: strange 72 Cheyenne Super options. see spid

I have seen a Cheyenne Super with very few options before, even 6cyl/3spd. I've seen Customs with about every option you could get

Most vehicles come with tilt wheel today and I talk to a lot of people who say they never use it. I guess those people wouldn't have chosen the tilt option in a Cheyenne Super.

My strange one was my '71 Cheyenne Custom Camper. I bought it with the original camper installed when new. It was always just a camping rig. It had camper mirrors, slide out rear bumper, camper wiring, but no sliding glass window. Those were a popular trend in all trucks but originated for use with slide-in campers. First thing I did was install one and remove the window in the camper to gain a pass-through

This would be me. I have never used the tilt feature in any vehicle I've owned. I did however have to repair the tilt column in a 77 Cutlass I had. In my opinion it just adds complexity with no benefit. But then again neither of my trucks has power steering as well.

Re: strange 72 Cheyenne Super options. see spid

wow.. some supers came with 3 on tree, 6cyl, non tilt, no ps, no air,. and others loaded. now im starting to understand, short of a pretty wood grain interior and woodgrain lower trim it's all about the selected options! but i do like those pretty interiors!!
This is all very interesting. thx for all your input! Dave

Re: strange 72 Cheyenne Super options. see spid

Super was just an appearance package. I have run in to several people at shows over the years that will tell you that all Supers had A/C, tilt, buckets, etc. - not necessarily true. I've got some SPIDs at home to refute this. Got one with 350, 3 spd, manual steering and brakes and radio delete. Another with 307, 3 spd, and manual everything. Got another interesting one with BB, auto, tilt, tach, am/fm, buckets, posi and NO A/C!

Hey, that’s my truck! Thought the options looked familiar. Guess I need to clean up old posts.

Here’s a picture of my 72 K2500 Sierra Grande. No AC,Tilt,Tach or really any other options besides the appearance package and the engine and trans option. I assume the dealer would order these trucks to sell to people who wanted a top of the line truck for comfort but couldn’t afford all the bells and whistles.

Re: strange 72 Cheyenne Super options. see spid

Most of the first C/K 20/2500 Supers/Grandes were bought to haul campers. A heavy duty truck with comfort and appearance features was a newer notion back then and camper haulers opened that market up. You'll see more non-a/c trucks in the north because most people in that region didn't feel the need for it. You see more of these trucks in regions where the great outdoors is most enjoyed. A camper hauler with a/c and sliding rear window was a common pair in camper haulers to give a pass-thru if nothing else. But also, it's nice to let the breeze cool you when it's not so nasty hot. Especially where people take campers to, like the beach with a breeze or the mountains with cooler air.
