My 78 Scottsdale 4x4

Dad bought it for me when i was 14. He said "Papa bought my 67 Camaro for me when I was 14 so i could start working on it, and I thought I should give you the same." A friend of mine had this truck for sale and for 1700 and I told dad that I wanted it. So he bought it for me for a Christmas gift that year and we parked it at my family farm. She sat for 7 years and I finally had the money to start workin on her. I blew the original motor it had which was a 305 that had about 500k on it and the trans was shot too. I pulled the 305 at the beginning of this year and took it to the machine shop had build specs already to build a hoss 305 up till 5500 RPMS and got bad news from my machinist. The lifter galley was cracked on both sides of the block front to back, and 3 of the 8 cylinder walls were cracked. So i saved the money and went to a pull apart yard here in GA and picked up a 94 Burb with a 350 in it had 100k on it and has roller lifters in it. So i have put a late model engine into my square body. Tires are still good, dash pad isn't cracked yet, head liner was shot so I pulled it out. Seat is good and I wont get rid of it as I have never seen another like it in another truck. I built the TH350 Trans myself and its built as bullet proof as I can get it. I have to redo the wiring harness as the guy i bought it from hacked it all up and nothing is wired correctly anymore but somehow everything but the gas gauge and blinkers and the dummy lights in the dash work. So I am in need in as much help as i can get from you guys on wiring for the alternator and dash stuff. I am taking my dummy lights out and changing them all to gauges so i can see what is really going on. Anyways here are some pics. I am goin to redo all the body work and paint myself when I can get me a beater to drive around after I can find another job as I am currently unemployed. I also intend to change the interior to maroon with black trim. and Build a custom Dash

This was the day I got her

This is how she looks now when together

The motor I bought for her

Sittin in my shop with the hood off cause my aluminum 4barrel intake is cracked

The seat I spoke of

Maybe ya can see the butchered wiring in the engine compartment. The green wires are for my electric fuel pump and the toggle switch I have in the dash for it

Nice! That's a cool looking truck. Perfect height. Are you running that '94 engine with TBI or did you convert it to carb? I plan on converting my truck to TBI sometime in the "not so near" future. Money permitting...

Re: My 78 Scottsdale 4x4

yeah i converted back to carb i gave 500 for the complete motor tbi to oil pan and he also through in a balanced flywheel and an aluminum 4 barrel intake for a late model. my old intake needs the center holes drilled out so it will bolt to the late model heads and i need to find some wiring for it as i also got the r134 a/c compressor with the motor also. i have everything but the brains to make the tbi work. got a free fuel pump and regulator from a buddy of mine. pulled old toggle switches out of an old mark twain boat to use for the fuel pump, one was a kinda like starter switch that i am gonna use for my light dimmer on my custom dash as my floor switch is shot. right now i have hooked up the fuel pump to one of the switches so it isnt hard wired to the battery so i can stop a fire if it starts lol. also the newer style power steering pump is a lot different than the older style. i had to custom make my power steering hoses for it as each end is different. this truck turns a lot better than my fathers 93 z71. power steering is a lot better imo too the steering box on mine is quicker and turns sharper than his too

No one seems to sell bumpers like that anymore. It seems like now all you can get is huge bumpers that look out of proportion with the truck.
