What gas tank will fit under the bed with a rear fill. for the 55-59 pickup.

I had a 68 Chevelle or Impala under mine as an auxillary tank before. Filler fit right between the Fleetside bumper and rear sill, I did it with a flip down license plate from the donor car. It was 16 gallons. It hung lower than the one in my build thread (aftermarket aluminum).

i believe 69-70 mustang tanks fit quite well also

That sounds nice, then you could avoid the filler cap in the bed floor.

Any 60's GM car plate assy will work, my 64 Chevelle has the same bracket, matches the Fleetside bolt pattern too. I used 1.5 x 1/8" strap bolted to the rear and shock cross sills. I would have kept it but had already patched two rust holes in the bottom.

You can also use from a tank from a Blazer.

this tank belongs in a 1959-60 Chevy passenger car.
the best part is that the fuel sending units works in the correct resistance range to match the stock truck gauge.
You will have to shorten the fill neck and use a non-vented cap.

I ran the vent hose up under the right rear fender and connected it to a fluid separator, the round cannister laying on the bumper in the photo below.
also note the Nova flip license plate bracket.

Thanks for the pics justplainray. With the filler behind the plate, that is a great alternative to having it in the bed.

No change to the cross member required. (short bed 56)
Made straps out of 1/16 x 1 inch steel, nylon webbing and rubber sheeting for cushions.
Front mounts to frame cross member, rear mounts to bed rearmost cross sill.
Be sure to use non-vented cap to avoid spillage on accelaration.
And vent hose will need to go to a fluid separator (radiator overflow bottle) so as not to spit fuel out.

Any tank that's not in the cab!! Mine is on an 84K10 frame so choice was easy and filler in on left rear fender where it should be.

I'm surprised there's not a sticky on fuel tanks as the question seems to come up quite often. I know I will be looking for one soon enough. What I have that came with the purchase of the truck is an all aluminum one that is mounted in the bed?? Anyway, since I'm going 5.3 LS swap, I have been researching and there is not many people mentioning a tank with the EFI baffle in it. Tanks Inc will sell you one, but then you need which one to buy. I'm looking for a side fill, not out the back nor in the bed floor, so that limits me. I see many choosing the Mustang tank, not or a Blazer tank, not sure what years, nor do I know if these have the baffle or sump for EFI. Anyway, I'm not in a hurry yet, just researching, gotta finish the triangulated link set up with coil overs first lol.

Blazer tank has a left side of the truck fill. They do work great if you can figure out how to route the filler pipe/

The only other rub is that they hang down further than some guys like.

I've got a 78 F 150 tank that came with the last nine inch I bought that fits great but has the side fill hose. Sending unit ohm rating on the Ford tanks could be an issue unless you are running aftermarket gauges.

I used the 25-gal Blazer tank in my '56 Panel. Removed the vapor dome and welded in a flat piece both to mount fuel pump and sender but also allowed tank to sit higher in frame ~2". It comes with a tray in the tank for EFI pump to sit in.

Thinking back to the impala and another car that I owned that had rear fill gas tanks if you filled the tank and then parked with it nose up on a slope soon after gas would sometimes run out.
