I did a search and I did not find any recent post on Oil Filters...

I have a 402BB ... what are some of the better Oil Filter brands?

I usually use Wix - they make really good filters. I've used Bosch as well.

Cut one open and have a look for yourself.
Fram filters are absolute junk.

As stated before,
Wix is great,
Napa gold (is Wix) so also a great filter.
K&N are great filters,
Heck, Micro guard and Pro-Tec ain't bad.
My buddy used to have a canister filter on a '49 FORD that he filled with tampons ...That might have been worse than Fram ...But I'm not sure

I had trouble with Wix filters for my 67 AMC 232 engine. The anti-drain back valves (ADV) didn't work and the engine would rattle like crazy on start up. It took me three filters before I figured that out. My preferred filter for that engine is Purolator but the cheap Fram oil filters also worked OK. If a filter with supposed ADV pours oil out the outside holes when you remove the filter then the ADV is not working. I will use Wix on other applications, like I may have one on my 350.

I had a Fram ultra-guard filter collapse in the winter time on my wife's Volvo XC90. It just did not let enough cold oil through it. Since then I have gone back to using the dealer filters.

At a car show a fellow was showing me the Fram filter he was going to use and I noticed steel slivers around the outside holes. Maybe just an anomaly but the plate obviously didn't get punched out cleanly. I only ever saw that the one time. Other than these observances I've used a lot of Fram filters over the years with no known bad results.

Fact: Fram uses cheap inferior paper filter material
Fact: Fram uses the same inferior paper on the ends of the canister rather than metal caps.
Fact: You will find rust in the majority of fram filters when you cut them apart.

Correct me if I am wrong but the Wix 51061 application for my 350 truck does not show an ADV whereas Fram, Purolator and AC-Delco do. My truck's next filter will have an ADV whether it needs it or not.

I hope this will provide some insight to the OP, although I don't know if his filter application is the same.

What year is your truck??? There are actually several chevy filters with and without the check valve. If you have a standard small block, no check valve is needed. Just need to buy the one with the quantity of oil needed. There is the 1/2 quart, the full quart and the 2 quart filter. Then on the GMT trucks where the filter sat up horizontal (because of the frame design in some instances, big block I think) is where the filter needed a check valve. I believe there were 2 different ones for that. If you have the early 350 then you can actually run either, but the horizontal GMT trucks have to have the valve. If the 51061 does not have the valve then you may need the 51060

ADV=Anti-drain back valve

For those that will read this thread and are not certain what ADV stands for or what it does: Anti-drain back valve prevents oil from draining out of the oil filter when the engine is turned off. You can find a ton of information about this online. As well as Oil filter reviews, ratings, opinions etc.

FRAM uses a silicone ADBV on FRAM Tough Guard and FRAM Ultra filters, and switched to a silicone ADBV on Extra Guard filters in 2018 because of its superior performance.

The Wix 51258 including the Napa equivalent did not work for me on the AMC. All the oil ended up back in the pan. For that reason I wouldn't trust the 51060 either.

Anybody using the 51060, when you spin off the filter and lay it on its side, does oil come out of the outside holes? If yes ADV not working, if no then ADV working OK. At least those are my findings.

ADV = anti drain back valve is only needed if the filter is mounted on its side or top . our old engines with bottom mount dont drain back much at all . . and if they did we got bigger problems ..

seen and heard to many storys on fram SH!T so i just go wix or purolator for my top 2 .

Purolator is my favorite filter, but wix baldwin are good, ive used stp from auto in a pinch on customer cars will not runa fram i did find out fram was bought out by mann-hummel so im goignt og ive it a few months and by one to cut open to see if they changed anything
