thanks so much bruh, I appreciate that, I'm trying, the key is allowing yourself to fail, and just taking your time, and I am no fabricator by any means just an IT guy with a grinder, ha ha

Re: A '54 named Busty

a little spin on layinrocker65 idea of welding on the washers to keep the C lips from coming out, I decided to weld some on to the pins rather than attempting to mushroom the ends

Re: A '54 named Busty

fellow truckers, lemme see if I can explain this situation so maybe you can help me

how tight are we supposed to make these hinges, I think I collapsed the pin on the rebuilt one just the way I found it so there is about 1/16 of an inch gap in the clam shell if you will, so is it supposed to be that loose or is it supposed to be zero lash ?

That sounds a whole lot like the Little Red Wagon song that we sang in Cub Scouts

Anyway... I would think you want those hinges pretty tight. That little bit of slop at the hinge will turn into a lot more at the latch.

and since no one will ever see this piece and never know what the repair looks like, I decided to spend many many hours making it as original as possible

Re: A '54 named Busty

My hinges were at "zero" lash when I did them. I wanted everything to be as tight as possible.

Nice work on the hinge repair. Good luck on drilling out the pin.
