What to add disc brakes to my 1966 c20.

63-66 Crossmember Installed:
1) There are many advantage to leaving your 63-66 crossmember in place to add disc brakes.

2) 63-66 truck owners can now purchase "year specific" standard and drop spindles, from many aftermarket suspension vendors.
* No need to change ball joints.
* No need to change tie rod ends.
* These new "conversion disc brake spindles" are a true "bolt-on" mod to add disc brakes to your truck.

Summit racing has Classic Performance CP4S9 - Classic Performance Spindles disc conversion stock hight 1966 c20 year specific parts.
Been looking at threads so far haven't found anybody that has tried these or something simalar. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I kept mine. After driving around my new build I don't get why you need to change. I can see the torsion bar guys need, but...

You mention you have a C20…do you want to keep the 8-lug wheels?

The spindle part number you quote is for a C10 and won’t work with your C20.

I have first hand experience on my GMC with conversion spindles that work with 3/4 ton ball joints/tie rods but uses 1/2 ton brake parts. But I don’t know if that’s what you are trying to do.

I haven't looked at the aftermarket companies for a disc spindle that works with the factory 63-66 ball joints and keeps the truck 8 lug.

If that spindle does exist, that's news to me. If it doesn't, your next best option is a stock spindle from a 71-72 or 73-91 3/4 ton, which looks like it requires the whole crossmember because of how the LCAs mount to the 63-66 arms

Performance Online sells a C20 kit to keep 8 lugs on a 63-70 truck. I’d give them a call…

(Edited, I had the wrong link)

This kit uses the Western Chassis spindles. You can use your original crossmember but it looks like you do have to swap out the ball joints and tie rod ends. I’ve found that both of my trucks needed these parts replaced anyway.
