My truck has been sitting for the last two years as I am stationed overseas right now, but I am due to return to the states this summer. You have inspired me to add more care and time in my write ups that I will be doing in the future. I figure if I want to make a quality write up, I will have to slow down a bit and be a bit more methodical and deliberate in my project planning and implementation (I’ve had a few problems in the past with Slow and Deliberate vs Fast and Hard ).

Anyhow, great to see you enjoying your truck, because that’s what it’s all about.

Best Regards,
Travis
Thanks, Travis. I keep working on mine Slowly and Deliberately but I haven't taken the time to write about it for a while. I see quite a few threads where someone has lost their enthusiasm due to trying to do too much work on their truck at once. I look forward to seeing your write-ups on your truck when you return to the good ol' USA.

Re: Jim's 1969 Custom/20

This thread should be pinned right up there with Bruce88's "It's Just a Pickup" thread. Seriously.

Great attention to detail in documenting the repair of a good number of issues that ail our 40+ year old trucks.

If I ever decide to start driving my truck daily, you can be sure this thread will be referenced heavily.

Kudos, Jim, for your work here. And I love your truck.

The inaccurate color reproduction is apparent in these pics. Maybe someday someone will get it right. The cover isn’t all that hard to change out, it’s the foam that took all the work. Still, it’s a damnsight better than before !

I think I got an excellent return on the dollar for this project, even when I include the cost of the foam samples and discarded first bottom repair.

Seat foam from local supplier….…....19.05
Seat foam samples from diy.com.…..41.10
Seat foam……………….…………............54.68
Seat foam (firmer)………………........….28.55
Subtotal: seat foam……………………..........………$.143.38
( way cheaper than all new foam @ $400 ! )

Seat covers………………….……………................……239.08
Spray adhesive, silicone……………………............……18.69
Brazing wire and flux…………………….….…...............16.16
Bolster spring………………..……….................……………4.59
Hardware for seat frame repair………………..........…..1.89
Hog ring pliers…………………………………...................12.93

Total………………………………..……..................……$.436.72

Peace.
Hey Jim,

I also live in Carlsbad and have a 1972 Custom Camper and a Corvette. Any chance I can drop my seat off and have your restore it?

Re: Jim's 1969 Custom/20

Jim,

Just ran across your thread today. Great to see another Navy man with a C20. I'll be referring to this for years to come as my son and I restore our baby. Did you ever get around to rebuilding your 350?

Cheers,
Shawn

Re: Jim's 1969 Custom/20

Jim, how is the seat holding up after 6 years of use? Getting ready to redo some of the foam on a pair of bucket seats and I have kept your thread for reference for this very project.

Thanks,
Mark

Re: Jim's 1969 Custom/20

Jim-

I just went through your thread, hope all is well.

I also own (actually my son's) a 1969 Saddle/White C10, I know yours is a C20, but saw you were collecting pictures of them.

My son is in the Air Force, but it works out great, he sends parts and I get to "play" with his truck! Win/Win in my book!

The engine in this one has the same casting number yours does, 3932386 with the TH400.

I do not have a build thread going yet but i will start on soon.

Jason
