Re: Show us your crayon marks

Do you guys think that if I traced over these marks with a fresh crayon prior to repainting the firewall that I could preserve them?

Re: Show us your crayon marks

That may work. Another approach is to "re-apply" them. They probably were not wax crayon- more likely were written with a "paint pen" since they have lasted 50 years now. The Corvette restorers have this stuff well researched. Corvettes were made in the St Louis Plant along with Impalas and pickups.

So get one of the same markers the Corvette restorers use- probably black. Trace the original and duplicate it after your new paint. However, one big mistake the Corvette guys always do is making these assembly markings too neat. Remember, these were written as shorthand by the line workers in a matter of seconds.

RPO system started in 63.
If you look at the order sheet and your truck Crayon markings you'll notice the numbers jive without the letters before them

Here's a rare one I bet nobody else has. It is a 65 shortbed probably ordered as a utility truck. It does have a factory spotlight on it. Kansas City Power & Light truck.

Driver side firewall on my '62 C10. Sorry about the rotation. Couldn't figure out how to turn it.

Probably the last four digits of the general assembly sequence number.

See post #3 of this thread.

Re: Show us your crayon marks

I was looking through Facebook Marketplace and saw this '58.

Looks like the underhood markings are still there.
