Something about all the early-mid '60s trucks (cars, too). That era lasted longer for Dodge Trucks since that body went from '61-'71. Trucks really varied in that time. Dodge still had leaf spring up front, Ford went from leaf to Twin-I Beam, and Chevy went from torsion bars to coils.

Re: Classic Trucks: Other Makes

The unibody fords just never did anything for me. Although a couple of those are done up nicely.
Didn't they offer both the unibody and a body on frame design (separate cab and bed) the same year? I have forgotten.

Yes. The torque box between the bed and cab is a common rusting spot in the Uni's

Good to see. I look at that picture and thing, "Where's the plastic?" (other than the turn signal lenses)

Re: Classic Trucks: Other Makes

In '61, the first year for new body style and unibody, F100s and F250s were either unibody for Styleside or Flareside. No 4wds were offered with the unibody. Plus there were cab and chassis models available. 4wds got the prior design Styleside bed. After complaints about frame flex popping doors open Ford began offering the old design Styleside on 2wds as well as unibody. It wasn't till '64, first year after unibody, that Ford offered the matching bed. And that became the only Styleside available

This is a true survivor. A one-off '59 Pontiac El Catalina...prototype. Truly remarkable that it wasn't crushed once GM decided not to put it into production.

I love that thing. Too dang cool. I've seen a prototype '69 Lemans body El Camino, called it the Safari.

I saw these at an antique truck show last month

They stretch the Samurais out to make little pickups out of them. Pretty cool I think.

[QUOTE=special-K;8784691]I think I like any truck made before '73.

Not sure if this is classified as a truck,, or not ..it is hauling something in a sort of bed in its behind ..
it is a 1955 Panhard El Cachero

Re: Classic Trucks: Other Makes

That thing is cool as all get out. I've never seen one of those, but it seems I've heard the name. I know that Panhard is the name of the man who invented the solid rear coil suspension partby that name. Musta been talking to someone who brought them up. Thanks for showing that... that... thing

I just realized all those have wide whitewalls. Funny how a trend that never existed comes to life the second time around.

I suspect the starter is dragging putting a strain on the solenoid. When it was starting did it crank normal speed or slow?
