A good snow tire for our trucks?

I got a '70 Burban and it needs tires. I've looked on the net for reviews but all I find are jeep forums. I want a tire that does great in the snow and rain. My truck is a DD so an outright mud tire won't do for me. Any ideas? Thanks guys!

Re: A good snow tire for our trucks?

Talk to your local "tire guy", they are a wealth of information and know your local conditions. That said, I prefer a closer to stock size tire. (mud, snow with good siping for rain.) My truck was a plow truck that was driven, '73 K-20
I have driven on the BFG AT, and they seemed to be decent.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Re: A good snow tire for our trucks?

Go talk to one of our guys at America's Tire! (Discount Tire in the other 20 states) They'll give you some good recommendations, and we will not be undersold, even match/beat internet prices.

I'm running Hankook DynaPro AT-M's on my Duramax and K20 and have been impressed. Only been in snow once last winter in Flagstaff, but they did well. They are siped fairly significantly, so should do well on ice too. BFG AT's are never a bad choice either, just more $$$.

Re: A good snow tire for our trucks?

I'll second the recommendation on the Hankook Dynapro AT-M's. I've been running them on My 2wd Trailblazer going on the 2nd winter now. For a 2wd it with these tires it takes a hell of a lot to get it to break traction. They are great on hard packed snow, slick roads and rain. I've had the factory BFG longtrails, Dunlop a/t's and Michelin's and the Hankooks have by far been the best on my Trailblazer. I suggested them to a co-worker who put a set on his 06 Ram and he was just as impressed as I was.

They aren't as aggressive as a full blown mud tire, but they have a lot of siping and biting edges that give them a solid footprint on the white stuff.

Thanks guys. I just a little relunctant to ask tire shops just because you never know if they're being truthful or just trying to sell a certain brand. Perhaps I'm just too skeptical

Re: A good snow tire for our trucks?

Our guys don't work off commission. We just like repeat business!

Here is a link to the Discount Tire DynaPro page. You'll have to choose the size. Fair amount of customer reviews there too IIRC.

I'd originally purchased them as they are quite a bit less expensive than the good old BFG AT's, and I just wanted something for my K20 work truck. PO had put some mid '90 OEM steelies on there, and the rubber was shot. I bought a new set of rims and picked the Hankooks based on my cost and the reviews. I then confirmed with the guys at my local Discount Tire (I work at Corp.)

I got sidetracked for a bit doing some interior work on the K20 about the time I noticed the Michelins on my Dmax were get near the wear bars, so I swapped shoes between the two. After two trips to CA, and local trips here in AZ pulling a 12k bumper pull toyhauler, I was sold on them. I ordered a set of 18's and new rims for the Sierra, and put the 16's back on the K20.

Both sets are load range E FWIW.

Re: A good snow tire for our trucks?

I just put the new Cooper Discoverer AT3 on my wife's SUV, and though I've only had them in the snow and ice once so far, I am very happy with them. BFG A/Ts are always a good choice for that purpose as well, although so far the AT3s seem better suited both to muddy conditions and even the highway than the BFGs. (I replaced the same size BFGs with the AT3s) The tread pattern seems similar to the Hankooks mentioned above, which I have also heard good things about.

Re: A good snow tire for our trucks?

I got a better deal from the local tire guy than I did at Wally World. 245-75-16 M&S for 150 each mounted and bal. I had BFG's since 2003. Good tires.
