Re: 6.0L pros cons

Around here 6L motors command a premium price over the garden variety 5.3L, usually in the neighborhood of 2x more.

The power and torque that they can make is truly impressive, but the reality of it is that you can't get it to the ground in most old trucks, so it is kind of a waste of money.

A 2019 engine is going to put you at the 'bleeding edge' of technology and be a PITA to figure out (and probably pretty expensive too)

On the other hand, you can't throw a dead cat in a junkyard without hitting a earlier generation LS motor that will easily get the job done. Last one I bought was an aluminum 5.3L LS with 90K for $650. That engine was drive by wire, so I bought all the accessories, PCM and wiring for a drive by cable for another $100. I can make the harness work stand alone in less than a day doing it myself. Another $100 gets the VATS deleted and you are off to the races.

A 6L seems like a lot of dollars and work to me, but it is your time, money and project. Do what makes you happy

Re: 6.0L pros cons

As a new owner of a 28,000 mile 2005 2500 HD with the 6.0 I will say, it is a thirsty motor. Yes, I realize it is a truck.. I am still trying to get used to no more than 14 mpg on the interstate and $75 dollar fill ups. I realize the TF trucks were not economical too.

Best of luck on your project.
