Not a truck but want to share

Not a truck but want to share. This wS parked outside closed dealership. I worked there 84 to 89 in the body shop with my Dad. At that time this was in the showroom. My dad had a body shop late 70d until early 80s. I was told but "you and your dad painted that. I never worked on it I would remember. It supposedly has 30k miles on it.

Re: Not a truck but want to share

I've always dug the post war cars. I never was much impressed with the tri-5's. I bid on a 50 a few years ago at an auction. The interior was Grandma-fresh, the exterior wasn't terrible, a few dings and few surface rust spots where the paint oxidized.

Anyhow, it's a shame that car is sitting out in the elements. Cool though.

Re: Not a truck but want to share

My grandparents had a 54 210 2 door post that they bought new in 54 (traded a 48 fastback for it) and drove until they traded it for a 61 Chevy Biscayne wagon.

I got to ride on a lot of adventures in that car including fishing trips to the mountains for Brook trout and an annual trip to the ocean. I'd love to find a 54 Bel Air hardtop to redo as my daily driver.

Thinking about it my best friend in High school Mike Jones (the horse trainer) and my #1 cousin both had 54 Chevy 2 door posts at one time and that adds to my love for those things.

it is still sitting outside... in the snow... I should go see if my savings account is big enough.. I wonder if Mrs. Marty would be mad if she opened the garage to find this sitting in her stall...

Re: Not a truck but want to share

Sweet! I was in Idaho in '75 and a guy gave me a '54 two door post car for some work I did. It had a visor and rear fender skirts, one of which was lost on the trip back to California when the left rear tire wheel studs sheared off, which I attribute to my BiL shooting the lug nuts on uber-tight. It had a seized engine, but my dad had a '53 truck that donated the engine, and the SHP 327 he had I rebuilt and put in the truck. That 327 came out of a '64 Impala that my sister bought from the original owner. Boy, the memories.

Really? In her stall? No. She won't be mad. Trust me. I've only been divorced a few times. I know women.

My wife is pretty cool about what I drag home. Supportive really. But taking her spot....Different story. I do hear about that.

I'd at least give it a try. It's a shame to see it out in the elements like that.

Well that sounds like a green light to me!

To be followed up by a new carport outside..... with walls, doors, heat, electricity, eh, and maybe big enough to fit that comfortable couch!

Re: Not a truck but want to share

That car is the essence of Chevy with no frills. Like the American version of the VW bug. A car built for the working man. There was only one size car so a 210 was the economy model. I can't tell you the last time I saw a '54 that wasn't a Belair. I have '54 Chevy hubcaps on my '67 project

CG, you need to get real!

Re: Not a truck but want to share

Now that's what Im talking about s-K!

And here is a little known fact about these cars. They actually made a business coupe/utility sedan version with a shortened doghouse (roof area) meant for sales people. I know 53's for sure could be had that way, and I feel like 54's were included.

I found this out about 20 years ago when a guy at a body shop adjoining our office told me he had one. Um, no you don't. They didn't continue that style on into the 53-54. So he drove his in to show me … Yes they did lol.

Man, I remember as a kid the local poor boy "customs" were 48 to 54 Chevy cars. Usually black or maroon, white wall tires on black stock rims with silver lug nuts, some with baby moons, straight 6 with split duals, decked and shaved. Low dollar customs for the average guys. Into the 50s 2 door hardtops were the cool look.
