85 4x4 blazer project

some of you may have seen this in the 73-87 prjects but i figured id switch over to here for cause of the way the prject went. started off with a 78 gmc jimmy but due to terminal rust damage (collapsed body support twising whole cab) i found a donor truck (85 blazer) with no motor no trans and 10 bolt 10 bolt combo soooo naturally i decided to give the 85 the 78 powertrain which consists of a 10 front 12 bolt rear 4:10 gears front and back, 4 in ranchero lift, I believe np205 tranfercase, sm465 manual tranny and a gm targetmaster 350 crate motor with 510 miles on it since bought. so far i have hung the clutch and brake pedal assembly (blazer was orginially an auto) dropped in the engine and tran, and put in the front axle with new bushings. here are some pics

Re: 85 4x4 blazer project

That's a really nice looking truck. I wish my 89 was nice enough to build, but it's way too rotten. The drivetrain will come out and it'll take a happy trip to the graveyard...

Re: 85 4x4 blazer project

rot wise the truck is pretty clean but gettin her muddy has deffinitly given her some dings she takes a beating on the trails. so recent update i am in process of bolting up the new 14 bolt rear and will be done with that this week before she makes her first trip to the badlands in indiana and i will be sure to put up plenty of pics of the wheeling there. it will be my first visit to a true offroad park.

Re: 85 4x4 blazer project

the front is a dana 44 it was completely redone all around all joints bearing and internals where replaced and upgraded so i think i am gonna stick with that for now but i am in search of a cheap pair of 37 inch tires to see if i can fit em or not. but for now the front axle is stayin the same

Re: 85 4x4 blazer project

well i just got back from the badlands idiana offroad park yesterday after a long, stressfull, and exhilerating weekend. i went out there with the unoh offroad club from thursday to mid afternoon sunday. i used my 1996 ford f-350 to tow down my buddys 90 chevy k10 with a solid axle swap up front. inturn my buddy drove my k5 behind me to the park. the trip there was uneventfull. the first day of offroading i dropped the k5 into a rather un assuming mudhole which swallowed the truck and then i spun the number 5 cylinder rod bearing. i dropped the oil pan in the camp grounds and pulled the bearing. fortunatly i caught it quick enough where it did not do other damage to the crank or connecting rod. so the truck sat till saturday morning when the parts came in. it took me bought an hour to fix the truck and then i continued to wheel it the rest of the weekend. on the return trip home we convoyed back with the whole club. bought and hour in to the 5 hour trip a dodge 2500 blew its trans and the only unloaded truck was my k5 so the k5 then ended up towing back a trailer with a jeep wrangler on the back. so anyways here are some pics of the trip
