69 K10 "Project Plow Truck"

Ok, so here is my first build ever. I got this truck as a partial trade towards a car I was selling. It was the equivalent of $650... which seems like a good deal. I have a couple pictures, and many more will be following as I have time to move forward. I hope to have it in pretty good shape by summer. It runs and drives and the 4 wheel drive works fine as far as I can tell. When I got it, the distributor and carb were messed up by the PO, so, with new plugs, HEI, carb adjustment, battery, oil change, and some gas she started right up. The oil was half full of antifreeze, so, it was pretty much a given that we are going to do some work on the engine. I have a 4bolt 350 in my shed from a 74 monte I had, that will be going in the truck.
When I first brought the truck home, I had to drop it in my driveway. The wifre sure didn't like that, so.....I have a big bay garage I rent for my equipment and tools for my business, so, the truck was heading there. I drove it the short distance down the road to the garage, and it shifted and drove fine, even in 4wd.

Main goals:

1. engine swap
2. bed floor replacement
3. pull the few dents in the rear fenders
4. get two doors from another truck
5. fix few tiny holes in roof
6. put rally wheels on
7. minor interior/exterior cosmetics
8. rear bumper

The truck came with a working plow setup, but, I may not leave it on there. I already have a plowing business with new equipment, so the plow would be more for looks. My new stuff is red, so this truck may get painted red too, with a fisher stainless plow to match also! Who knows

Anyways, here is a few pics, with many more to follow!

Will be fun to watch your project. Are the axles, tranny and transfer case all original?

Re: 69 K10 "Project Plow Truck"

so far as we can tell they all seem to be original...but we haven't really dug in too deep yet. The new engine is going in this week and we are going from there... the main goal is to get it running and driving and tackle one thing at a time. I am geading to the shop to do a bunch of before pictures tonight before we rip out the old engine and work on the bed...

so one of the more obvious issues is the bed, and we are going to try and salvage it for now by replacing/repairing the cross members. the most aft cross member rusted through and dropped quite a bit, and the others are not completely terrible... we are starting to cut the bolts and get that out pending the new engine going in this week also

Re: 69 K10 "Project Plow Truck"

the front fenders are actually in pretty solid shape minus a few dents... compared to the bed, they are golden.. [I saw a bed for my truck up the road today, I may stop back by the guys house and make him an offer tomorrow...itd be nice just to pop another bed on than mess with mine for hours n hours

Re: 69 K10 "Project Plow Truck"

the PO hacked into the grill pretty good putting the plow lines in... so thats on the list !

the jury is still out on whether or not I want to keep the plow functioning or now... I like the looks of the old plow lights... and its a good tax write-off to keep it as a "backup" plow setup ... except for that Im pampered in my primary plow truck...

pass rocker.... the doors are obviously going... but the pass rocker will be repaired, it is probably the worst body area other than the doors which are wrecked all around [dented rusted etc ]

whats left of the exaust....not that its staying anyways.... you can kindof see the patchwork of the cab floor...

I would love to be able to do the whole frame off restore.. but... my new wife would not be happy... and we are babystepping into my new money pit of a hobby as it is

Once I get it on the road, in some form, she will give me a bit of a break Im sure!

Re: 69 K10 "Project Plow Truck"

What are your plans for the frame? A quick spray bomb or are you going to put some elbow grease into it and clean the frame up, than paint? Maybe get it powder coated?

Good start on the project, you certainly got alot to do.

Hi, I am currently building a plow truck too. I have a Meyers setup for it but would prefer a fisher. It looks like yours is a fisher. Are you interested in selling it?

Thanks,
Jeff
