Local Auction this Thursday/Interesting

Have a sellout at an old concrete plant in town Dec 1.
I will post a link. There is a longhorn 4x4 decent miles listed and a couple of others as well. None of it mine, but someone may show interest.

Re: Local Auction this Thursday/Interesting

This guy was a true junker. The place used to be across town when we got married 40 years ago. He had most of this stuff back then. They moved when he opened the concrete part of the business and the school bought their property. Now this end of town is the new eyesore. As sure as I dont go, everything will bring scrap price. If I go, it will bring twice what it's worth.

Re: Local Auction this Thursday/Interesting

I hope you go to find out. Could be a good day for you. I figure the inside truck could get stupid, but could be the outside ones don't bring so much. The K/10 looks like quite a handful

Re: Local Auction this Thursday/Interesting

If I dont get run off, I may go take a look today. Id like to see the bed condition of the 2wd sitting outside. I need a decent long bed for my black truck if it's worth cutting down. And what's under that rare longhorn intrigues me.

Re: Local Auction this Thursday/Interesting

Correct, no Longhorns 4X4's were factory made. That truck has C20 badges, but a K10 front axle (can't see the back one enough to tell) and a Longhorn bed so it's hard to tell what's going with that thing.

The black C10 does have a big block though.

I built a Longhorn 4x4. An original 4x4 frame was extended 6 inches on mine.

Re: Local Auction this Thursday/Interesting

I had to run to town, so I walked over and checked out the Cheyenne and Longhorn that was sitting outside. Both are parts trucks if you could even get any parts off them. The wood bed was gone from the longhorn and plenty of rust on the inner bed panels at the bottom. The SPID was impressive (picture), the other one had a complete 350/air all tucked up under the hood. Air cleaner to pan looked like it was all there. Not a straight body panel on it whatsoever. Couldnt get to the glovebox on it. The other BB truck is inside locked up.nobody was around. Rumer is that it is a 427. Who knows.

Re: Local Auction this Thursday/Interesting

^^^Thanks for the reconnaissance, very interesting. You can tell the longhorn is totally eaten by rust, no surprise what you found in the bed.
Sad that they aren't more than parts trucks...

Dave: Duh!!! How could I have missed that the longhorn has C20 badges??? My bad. Thanks for the edumacation though, I had never stopped to think about "longhorn K series".

Doc that's a beautiful truck.

Re: Local Auction this Thursday/Interesting

That longhorn has K/10 running gear stuffed under it. No such thing as a C/10 Longhorn let alone a 4wd.

Re: Local Auction this Thursday/Interesting

I didn't go due to the condition of the two trucks that were on my radar. I am trying to find out what they brought and I will update if I do.

Re: Local Auction this Thursday/Interesting

I made the trip down from St.Louis for the black big block truck that was in the building. After looking I did not see the truck anywhere so I asked the auctioneer. He said the guy decided not to sell the truck & removed it from the auction, needless to say I was not very happy with that reply, wasted a day of my time plus a tank of diesel fuel. The red & white truck went for $450, which it had that in mechanical parts only, the rest was scrap. When the longhorn truck got to $1,100 I walked off & left. The only the thing the longhorn truck had going for it was the factory tilt steering column, all sheet was scrap, as long as it looked like it sat, I wouldn’t bet on anything being else being much good. The best part of the day was the pulled pork BBQ sandwich I got at Wickliffe at Kentucky Hillbilly BBQ.

Re: Local Auction this Thursday/Interesting

Thanks Dond.
I know the auctioneer and he wouldnt tell me anything.
Yes the orange one probably had enough correct parts under the hood to possibly be worth 450. The frame looked like it would have been on the groung for 40 years. I didnt need an engine and the frame would have been all I could have used. Still even with all that, the longhorn project surprises me . I worked in Wickliffe for 21 years and their BBQ kept me alive. Did you happen to go up town to see the tornado damage?

Yeah, that BBQ place has been my favorite for years, I used to stop every time I went to the races at Paducah or Calvert City. I did go thru what used be downtown, unbelievable. Lots of empty slabs of concrete.I worked with a guy who grew up in Mayfield, still has family there, his last name is Hicks. His sister lives in downtown Mayfield, she is two blocks over from where there was nothing left, her house had very little damage. Saw some of the trees that was left, basically just logs left stuck in the ground with no limbs. I would imagine it will take years to rebuild downtown Mayfield, very sad to see.
