chrome lock strip

My build is a little over 5 years old and the chrome locking strip on the windshield is rusting. Looks like it comes with the weather striping, can I get it by itself somewhere?

thanks

Yes you can change that strip out. It will pull out, and then you’ll have to install the new strip. I replaced mine. Just remember to pull the protective film off when your done. I have seen where that is what is all sun baked. People forget to pull the film off, and that is what is actually all sunbaked and looks like rust.

Re: chrome lock strip

Thanks for that tip TCKR. Wonder if that's my problem. The "chrome" trim strip around the windshield is almost the same color as my truck now.

Yeah that stuff is so thin and on there so good, its like you would never know its there. But it does have a protective film that needs peeled off. In most cases, that's what's discoloring. People don't even know its there. Had that discussion with my brother when he helped with mine. He thought I was nuts saying it needed peeled off. He didnt think it had any until I got an edge started, and started pulling it off, lol.

I think I at least got it started, and then peeled it after the strip was installed. Cant really remember, that was about 8 years ago.

Re: chrome lock strip

Where can I get the chrome lock strip? Classic Industries, LMC? Or is it a specialty item?
Thanks

Re: chrome lock strip

What Bandit said, LMC. I’m pretty sure that’s where I got mine.

Re: chrome lock strip

I got my chrome trim kits for front and rear in 2018. The rear still looks new. I had windshield replaced in 2019 and they installed their cheap chrome strip. The front strip is black now. Could not tell if it had protective strip or not. If I would have known this, I would have had them use the old one. I have lately got another strip for front and waiting to install. Got them from LMC.
