The stamping I'm referring to can be found in the inside lower driver side corner (with reference to the tailgate installed and closed). There are two tailgates pictured below. Both are OEM 1972 chevy tailgates. One appears to have the number "34" stamped on it, and the other has "40."

And here is a gmc tailgate that is similar but a little different. This one has a rectangle stamped into the tailgate with "37" stamped inside the rectangle.

It says in the description for the VK2, CS-CE10934 for the models. Longhorns are model CE21034 even though they are called out after the model but their model number isn't listed. I almost wonder if this actually means a C10 couldn't get them unless it had power brakes? In much of these books or even sales brochures they hardly mention K trucks on the option stuff.

https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-...Truck_PCK.html

I know it isn't looking very probable for the K trucks. I've even talked to a couple of guys who have been around and building these trucks for 40 years. They both said they have never seen a tool box in a 4x4 but they wouldn't say it wasn't possible. They said they were generally ordered with camper specials to house tie downs for campers etc. They said dang near anything could be optioned on these if a person wanted to pay for it so they weren't saying it wasn't possible.

This worthless thread is kina fun.

Does it look like the SPID has been tampered with? The call out on the front locking hubs looks to have been painted over and restamped and the model on the SPID starts with a CK and not a KE.

You might need to join the group to see the post on FB.

I'm in that group and IDK why I never see some postings. That VIN is legit. 72 has a leading character that is extra compared to 67-71 and it determines if it is a chevy or gmc. C=Chevy T=GMC. The K is 4x4 and E is V8, 2 for 3/4 ton, 4 for pickup, 2 for 72, and Z for Fremont plant. The spid doesn't look painted over but it does have some light spots. I've seen that on some others too. IMO the SPID looks OEM.

I see where someone said he couldn't find the correct parts because his truck has the wrong rear end. Not according to the spid. It should have a D60 since it has G87 listed.

Yup, got a couple 72's with the CKE start of the VIN, but I am talking the model # starting with CK and not KE as in the pic I attached. Maybe I am wrong and different plants had odd things. I think this SPID had a CE and a previous owner switched it to CK (it should read KE for a 4wd, I always thought). I'm sure Jocko would know

Good catch and you are right. It should be KE20934. Dang it! The crazy thing is the VIN though. You would have to have a new VIN plate repro'd as well as get a title in a state requiring them. I'll try to get more info and pics from the truck's owner. Definitely looking fishy though.

Yeah, the VIN probably started as CCE and they switched the 2nd C to a K. Whoever did the SPID was pretty darn good. It still has the plastic over it, so it might be painted on top of the plastic? Post pics if he replies to you. Interesting stuff.

Early '69 3/4 ton cap ( 12" diameter ) with a shallow concave center cone. Later 69-72 3/4 ton caps had a higher convex center cone

Re: Somewhat useless Truck trivia...

Useless trivia:

Know how many GM part numbers are the lower number (odd) is for the LH side and the higher number (even) is for the RH side? Well the door lock lever stamps are almost close. The LH is stamped P833475 & the RH is P833474, just to add some confusion to my day. Sure those aren't GM part numbers, perhaps, but they're original.
