Chop tops look amazing IMO. I plan on doing one on my truck sooner or later(probably later).
Try contacting smashingchuck, he has a chopped top and it looks SWEET Wes

I chopped a 78 gmc back in 89 and loved it ! the only problem is the door glass, you got to use lexan .And you can only lowwer the seat so much becase of the hump in the floor where the frame runs.
I chopped it 6''and i'm finnally got another to chop in the spring mabie and i will post some pics for ya when i do . Hear is a pic of the one i used to have . |

here's mine... I'm slowly rebuilding it from the "unfinished" condition it's been in for the past 5 years.

Have you thought of putting a slant in the cab since you already have to do all that welding/replacing of glass? kinda how the apaches have the slanted looking cabs? just an idea......

I thought about putting one in mine back when i chopped it .
How come you took it out? Any pics of the inside of yours? Are you running lexan and what did you do to make it work? Last edited by chopper tom; 01-25-2008 at 03:08 PM. |

Re: 73-87 chopped tops??????? Anybody done or got pics?
It was ugly... I like 'em slick and clean... plus it kinda dated it to the 80's, you know?
I'll have some pics when I get teh interior redone in the spring. It's gutted right now, right down to the wiring and everything. windshield is a chopped down stock one. rear is flat glass, which wasn't a problem. Side windows were stock with "extended" wingvents- really didn't like that look... so I took 'em out and just leave the windows rolled down... after everything else is done I'm going to lay out the cash to have some windows custom made. you can follow the rebuild of my truck here... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=272219 |

Re: 73-87 chopped tops??????? Anybody done or got pics?
Ido all my own work and it anly cost the materials for me but if i had to do one for some one i would probly charge at least a thousand to fifteen hundred at least .and im probably too cheep as ussual?
But its not that big a deal if you have some welding skills and are good at sheet metal work.but i will say if this be your first time,to get aother cab to chop and then swap them out when your done .and get hold of tex smiths ''how to chop tops ''book [lots of info].and there are others out now too. I have done about 11 chops so fare and each one presints new problems to over come and the lowwer you go the more difficalt the jobseems to become! I'm a big fan of ratical chops and would love to see more done .In the 80's it seems like ther were a bunch around but it seems to have faded away. Sorry for the spelling ,hav'nt learned the spell checker yet? |
