Head light conversion?

Hey folks,

Im new to the forum and to rebuilding trucks, so I'll explain my problem the best I can.

I have an '82 Chevy C20 which comes with the dual headlight set up. All four come on when you click for the brights. Problem is when you just have the driving lights on (no brights) its very dim for my liking. I found some Hella lights that would love to put in the truck but the are hi/low fixtures. I don't necessarily want to get rid of the 4 head lights...cuz I like that look...but is it possible to put hi/low fixtures in, while keeping my 4 lights? or do I need to stick with the set up as is?
If so...are there some brighter lights/fixtures you guys can recommend to replace these for better light output?

Thanks for your time!

You can wire up anything you want if you do it right. You can also look up i the stickies above for a nice break down on doing an HID conversion.

Re: Head light conversion?

I have upgraded those #4652 small rectangular sealed beams to Hella or Bosh in the past. The ones using the replaceable 9003 / H4 bulbs for the hi/low (upper) bulb and the H1 for the high (lower) beam.

The 4652 sealed beam bulbs (hi/low) have unique plug wiring and you have to use an adapter. My Hella H4 kit came with them. (See the picture.)

The high beam H1 kit is a straight change-over.

I would suggest also installing a HD headlight wiring harness at the same time you put the Hella kits in. It helps give more voltage to the bulbs and more loght.

Re: Head light conversion?

Hella's will make a huge difference, along with a relay harness to bypass the old wiring, and higher wattage bulbs.

Here's a couple pics of the low beam pattern with Hella H4's, 10g harness with 50 amp relays, and Hella 80/100 watt bulbs.
