1971 Chevy 3/4 ton Teardown/buildup

1st time restoring a vehicle. Just picked the truck up this past week, got in the shop and have already started to tear it apart, I plan on doing a complete restoration, with a custom touch. I will keep this thread updated through the whole project and hopefully if i get stuck everyone will be able to assist me. Second truck i have owned so i familiar with this style of truck so hopefully it goes alright.

Love the wheels. Are you planning on keeping them on the truck?

Yeah they are cool wheels but i will not be keeping them i will probably be selling them later on when i don't need to role the truck around. They are 16.5" wheel.

It was my first truck, its a badass truck but i had to sell it to step father, and he wouldnt let me buy it back so i have this one now. The one in the back is a 72 with a 6" superlift 35" BFG MTs, and it is in the process of getting a new engine.

Here is some rust damage in the bed, not sure how difficult it will be to fix this. Also some more pictures of the truck, i need to get the bed off and see how bad the rust is under the truck. I already know the cab will need new rockers not sure what else yet hopefully i will get to the point of finding out tonight, anyway here are a few pictures.

Re: 1971 Chevy 3/4 ton Teardown/buildup

So i got a little bit of work done yesterday, interior 90% torn out, and hopefully finish it up tonight. Ran into a few speed bumps hopefully you guys can help me out. Can figure out how to get the speedo cable off the back of the dash and also as you can see below found some clips under trim that are not stock i think they are glued on?? and lastly how the hell do i get the stereo out. Oh i also went out and bought some new tools yesterday and a rolling cart ( hate walking back and forth to the tool box)

two tone wouldn't be to bad but i wouldn't go the blue and white path i see everyone go that way and its all i see around here it gets old. solid black with chrome or aluminum rims would be cool. i mean imagine a pure black paint job on the outside with that trim polished with a flat black inner on the trim... i want to do that some day....

Re: 1971 Chevy 3/4 ton Teardown/buildup

Ok so didnt get anything done today was stuck out of town all day. But hopefully i will make up for it, have talked to my father and were hoping that i can sand blast my frame for free, maybe the cost of the sand, but hopefully it all pans out. And we are also thinking i might be able to get the hook up with powder coat also God that would be great. so before i leave for school in a few weeks i am hoping to have the frame striped and ready to sand blast. Before i get any body parts back on i want to get the lift on and the new rear axle and all the brake lines and everything. Wish me luck i got alot to do by myself. OHHHHHH almost forgot my step dad brought home some wheels for me to build framed carts that i can put the bed and another one for the cab so maybe get those built tomorrow.

Ok Finally last thing i really want to do this with my dash bezel, i think it looks badass, what do you guys think.

Like that cluster, looks sharp. I'd paint it green myself, but I like green. Not too crazy about the original greens they used, we went with a newer green from a late model truck. A little cleaner green than the original greens that used a gold metalflake. Maybe a two tone green ?

Re: 1971 Chevy 3/4 ton Teardown/buildup

thanks guys for all the input, yeah i love that dash idea but i am not really sure how to do it, I like it because it takes a second look to realize its not original. If anyone knows how to do this i would love some advice or a link to another page or anything. Thanks again guys.

Id go with the Medium Olive Green. Not too dated looking.
