Generic Steering question

I bought a new steering column for my 50 about 6 months ago on marketplace.
Paid $100 CDN for it. Bought it from a guy building a '39 or so chevy. Anywho it doesn't have the tiny round clip that holds tension on the upper bearing like a chevy does. It has a spring and a spacer and it is threaded. Inside the box was nothing...no brand name stamped anywhere on it. I am looking for the nut if it needs one or any info anyone else would have. thanks

Re: Generic Steering question

I'm not familiar with that column but it looks like the nut that is on the shaft is in the right place. then the spring and spacer goes on like you have it. then is it possible that the steering wheel puts pressure on the spacer holding everything in place? just thinking out loud. good luck

What did the column come out of originally?

Came out of a box as it was new and unused. Guy I bought it said it was for a chevy.

Re: Generic Steering question

if its a china column the best thing you can do is throw it in the trash. sounds harsh but it just saves you the time of throwing it in the trash next year. get a flaming river or an ididit.

oh no! i hope you looked at ididits website and not just amazon

Located in Tecumseh, MI, ididit manufactures top quality, American made steering columns for the automotive aftermarket

looks like there is an error on the amazon page. or it could be rules on how amazon lists things, if the country of manufacture of more than half of the PARTS is china it may require listing as china made. it could also be a cheap copy being sold as an ididit part. who knows.

and on the subject, the guidance given by the LVVTA in 2013 details the problems with unsafe columns coming mostly from china, even US company CPP.
