I need a drivers side lower control arm?

We tore my dads 68 down. Swapping out drums for disc up front and drop spindles. Got the passenger side buttoned up and the upper drivers side done. CAN NOT get the factory ball joints out from the lower control arm. Anybody know where I can pick one of these up?

I've rarely seen where the BJs are spot welded in. Look closely. Never seen one that wouldn't come out with a BFH

You're on the other side of the country, so I can't help. Do you know anyone with a hydraulic press? That's how I did mine. And, yes, I've also seen where some have been welded in.

EdB used to have his lowers tack welded in on the original lower A-Arms. they just wore out over time and that is how he kept them from popping in and out over bumps/holes in road. Glad they finally got replaced. I tend to agree with kwmech that they may be welded in, which normally means they will need welded in again to keep things fit. I would look for another a-arm also.

Re: I need a drivers side lower control arm?

I got creative years ago and made some solid steel rings to replace the folded out sheet metal where the ball joint presses in and came up with this. Ground out the ring and opened up the hole with a drum sander and welded this in

Re: I need a drivers side lower control arm?

Take a wire wheel around both sides, clean off thoroughly. Mix atf and acetone in a container 50/50 big enough to fit the end of the control arm in. Prop the balljoint end down in the container and make sure the entire balljoint is submerged. Cover up with a towel to minimize acetone from evaporating. Leave for 24 hours. It should come out with appropriate technique.

It will come out.

If you give up take it to a shop with a press. By the way are you using an actual balljoint remover??

You are giving up too easily.

If I am not mistaken, the control arms are the same through 84.

While it's clean look for evidence of welding.

Control arms are the same for the 1/2 tons from 63 to 72. 73 changed to the rubber bushings on the control arm shafts.
Not sure on the difference between 3/4 and 1 tons though
