69sinkers build 69 cst ls swap

Thought I would start a build thread for my truck. The trucks a 69 2wd lwb with 02 camaro ls1/4l60e ( and whatever else I could use) the 69sinker name came from about 7 yrs ago. 2 weeks after I bought the truck for my oldest son ( 15 at the time) it somehow jumped in gear while running unattended and went into our pond. Of course it floated out in about 5 foot of water before it sank. The top of the roof was the only thing visible. So of course thats where this project began. I'll have to find the pic and put it on this build sometime.
After several days of flushing everything out it we had it rolling again but by the time he got his license he found a 86 4wd he liked better. So I kept the truck and it sat for year waiting on another son to drive ( I have 4 ).when the next youngest started driving it we had to rewire it, the pond water I'm sure had a lot to do with it. We bought a hot rod wires kit and he was back on the road for a year or so but with 10 mpg I bought him a 4wd s10 and kept the 69 for myself.
So after a year of sitting I started messing with it in nov. 2012. Another one of my sons had an 02 camaro and an old lady crunched it up pretty good and he decided to sell it and that's when I decided to buy it and get busy with a swap.
There is know way possible I could have done this swap myself without this site and its members.thanks to all and keep on posting!

Re: 69sinkers build 69 cst ls swap

First bit of advice right off the bat.
If you plan on buying CPP engine perches buy the new redesigned CPP sheet metal engine perches and the poly motor mounts, you will be real glad you did because the clearance for exhaust is much better, so much better infact that you will be able to use the stock camaro exhaust manifolds without modifying the engine perches.
Also if your AC bracket is on the lower RH side of the engine don't buy the 3" forward LS Swap Engine Mount Plate because it wont work on our trucks, the correct one is a 2" forward plate which I can provide the specs for and you can have it fabricated locally.
To counteract the 2" forward adapter you just move the engine perch 2" towards the firewall from the stock V8 position.
Contact Jeff at 888-522-8303 ext 118 and remember to tell him you are a member of 67-72chevytrucks.com so you get the discount.
Check out my build for information on the swap, the problems I had and the solutions I came up with.

Re: 69sinkers build 69 cst ls swap

Thanks for the reply, I've already installed the engine. I used the cpp perches and ebay adjustable plates, worked out well. I didn't install ac yet because I've tore truck completely down to the frame for restoration. I will use an upper type ac mount. I'm just now posting my build, started this project in November 2012 .
After getting the truck up and running I found a rust free truck and decided to swap body's
I've now got a roller and waiting on the body to get out of paint prison.
Ill post some pics to get this build up to date.

Re: 69sinkers build 69 cst ls swap

Thanks Brian. I wasn't aware of the new cpp perches, my fbody manifolds wouldn't clear so I went ahead and bought the thorley headers, pricey but really nice.

Reworked my impala buckets before I send them out for recovering(rave material in black with silver stitching). Removed air bags, cut 2" out of top of frame to taper top more and removed headrest. Hopefully they look similar to the factory buckets but with power, lumbar and heated. I had to throw in alittle modern comfort.

Also cut 4" holes in crossmember for 3" exhaust pipes. Brake job. Cleaned up my wheels and put them on.

Re: 69sinkers build 69 cst ls swap

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I had the truck on the road last winter with the ls in it, man what a fun ride! If anybody ever considers doing a ls swap, just drive one, you'll make up your mind right away. Used ls engines are plentiful and reasonably priced. The swap is pretty simple with all the information on this site.

A few pics from this afternoons stop by the body shop.
