3/4 to 1/2?

There has to be a thread on this somewhere I'm not finding it though. Looking to see what I have to change on a C20 front suspension to make it a C10. Hoping it can be done with spindles and rotors. If you know of a thread or two on this would you mind posting a link?

thanks!

Re: 3/4 to 1/2?

I'm not sure but I think A arms are different as the ball joints are larger. I know it is easy for me to say cause I'm not the one sweating it out in your shop but it might be better to change crossmember and all from the half ton parts truck

Ball joints are different, lower control arm is different, tie rods and center link are also different. I’d get a whole crossmember like suggested above

The ECE conversion spindles were the ticket for doing just what you are describing.
I have a set for the 73-87 trucks.
Too bad Early Classic Enterprises closed their doors.

You could ream spindles for c20 ball joints.
If you can't round up a set of ECE spindles.

Re: 3/4 to 1/2?

My nieces husband is looking for a C10 short box to build … equals expensive these days. I have a C20 with enough parts to build a short bed version. I’ll have him look at this thread. Thanks for the info. I’ll tell him I’d recommend getting an entire 1/2 ton crossmember if he decides he wants the truck.

He'll need a new rear end too I think

Re: 3/4 to 1/2?

This one is leaf truck and rear is out of coils truck, pretty easy to address that problem.

Re: 3/4 to 1/2?

Whole cross member is the easiest ticket. Especially if its already got discs.

Re: 3/4 to 1/2?

Ive offered up the entire lot of stuff I have for this truck to him. I just dont think hes going to be up for what it will take to make it what he wants to achieve.

Unfortunately for him and a lot of other folks, getting a short box C10 project isn't as simple as hopping on Craigslist and taking your pick of many cheap trucks available. No such thing.

Sad.... The 3/4 to 1/2 swap is as easy as rebuilding the front end of the truck but using select parts. The x-member swap is a decent option as well if you can find one that still has the wearable parts in decent shape.
