I would do anything other then a stock cam. The smallest modern grind is what I'd go with if you want stock like. Something like a lunati voodoo.

Normally I would, but I need to fix a bunch of 50 year old items. Plus can't afford for it to be down while I save money.

Re: 307 Camshaft

Stay with stock.
It's a dog, will always be a dog. Don't put a bigger cam in it and make it a mean dog.

It seems to be very difficult to get the cams to live past the brake-in period.
Don't forget the brake in oil and/or the stuff with extra zinc. Keep the motor above 1700 rpm for the first 20 min. To keep it from overheating during this period add extra fans in front of the radiator. Be sure to remove the heater hose when filling the block so it fills to the top with out air entrapment.
Cheers.

Re: 307 Camshaft

When I put a new flat cam in an engine, I always use GM Lifters and have never had a cam go bad during or after break-in. The 307 used the same cam as the 350 and 400 small blocks. I would go with either a stock replacement cam or one of the "white box" 194* intake 204* exhaust, they are a little more up to date than the stock cam (1970's technology vs 1950's) and not as aggressive as a true modern cam. I have used several Summit Cams in the last two years with no issues, but as I also used GM lifters,
