Charcoal canister improvements?

I have a daily driver 72 c10. The charcoal canister is shot, but before I swap or disconnect or whatever, I'd rather not have a garage full of fumes.

I live in California and couldn't care less about their environmental bureaucracy; this is purely me, not wanting excessive fuel smell. Now, while I don't care, I'm also not going to throw 3 or 400 dollars at this minor inconvenience.

Are there any swap-in cans people have had success with?
Is rebuilding it the best option?
Is the cap reproduced for the vac lines if it does get rebuilt?
